Jake Waters

I may have a inside track on Jake Waters. Several schools have offered him, like N.C. State, K State, as well as a few lesser known D-1 teams.
Several other "southern" schools may be lining up. My source has indicated 2-3 SEC schools are making calls to him.
I can tell you one thing for sure is that he and his brother Matt would both be wearing Cyclone uniforms today if they would have been asked, coming out of High School. I believe both would have joined ISU as Invited Walk-Ons. His brother Matt is on scholarship at Ohio University.
I have to disagree with the ney-sayers....this kid canplay, flat out can help the program.

Do you think them getting "snubbed" will hurt our recruitment of him now? Assuming we even are recruiting him

Hard to tell.
His Dad is ISU Grad.
I know both of them would have loved the opportunity to play for the Cyclones.
I just read that Auburn and Fresno State have expressed interest and Penn State attended a practice this week.
Both he and Matt are competitors, I just wish the Cyclones would have given them the nod, at no cost...walk-ons.

if Bill Snyder says he can play, I don't think anybody around these parts can debate that.

Yes, if Bill Snyder offers an Iowa guy that you haven't offered, you punch yourself in the face, wake up the next morning, and give that guy an offer and his mom a job at the university.

Love the 'we have five scholarship QBs' argument.

I don't care if that number is 15, if someone can play, you take him.

Does Iowa State need a juco quarterback? It doesn't matter who has offered or where he is from. If you don't need one, you don't need one. Barnett, Richardson, Rohach, Hodge, Lanning. There's at least five scholarship quarterbacks for next year. Did I miss anyone? If ISU needs Waters, it really messed up on some or all of the five names I just listed.

Or Waters is just better at this point in time :spinny:

"You" may not, but I'm pretty sure CPR does.

If he decides he needs an immediate impact QB for next season, I'm sure he'll look for one. The man does what it takes.

Soooo, you agree with me? I'm all for taking this kid if he makes the QB position better, no matter how many qb's you have on scholly.

If Snyder wants him, I want him. Snyder is a witch when it comes to finding guys from the JUCO level.

If anything, it keep Snyder from having him.

Talked to a KSU guy today that handles some recruiting info for a K State website. He said he is stunned ISU is not after Waters. He said he would probably come to Ames if he had an offer. Thinks he is the next Colin Klein. I wonder why we haven't offered?

Because Grant Rohach is the next Sam Bradford.

For real though, I would love for us to offer this kid, but if we got him it'd probably mean losing one of our QB's (current or recruits)

Sign 15 if it means finding 1 good one. QB's are often very athletic in general. They can convert to another position or transfer if they wont see the field. I fail to see the problem with offering scholly's to more qb's then you need.

I played against Jake twice in my high school career and he is a machine. That was a few years ago, but I do think that he is worth a good hard look. Also, when I was in high school there was talk that he was thinking of going to Iowa State.

I played against him in JC and Ill tell everyone right now he is very good. I played against Knott in high school and I could tell he would be a stud at ISU. I put Waters in the same category. The kid can flat out play football. Give him a chance. If he doesnt beat anyone out at QB then i think he can definitely play another position.

Something needs to be done, the fact that no one can beat out Barnett or Jantz is not good.

Agree. Richardson or Rohach may be "the future" but isn't that always the case with the young backup QB?. If they were really that good they wouldn't be 3rd string and redshirting behind mediocre-average Big XII QBs.

Obviously (BCS) teams see something in Waters and have offered and I think we should too. From the rumblings on this board hes a Cyclone fan and would love to be a part of the program. If he wins the QB job, great. If not, then we have another backup QB or we move him to another position.
