We could find articles all day that go back and forth...but I wouldn't expect you to try to find anything which would challenge your allegation. I am just speaking from first hand experience with apps I used on the Touch. It's largely a non-issue and most people I know with the phones don't have major issues with it.
Like I said, most apps remember where you were and pick right up where you left off. It's not that big of a deal.

I have to ask, with 99% of the threads on this site going off topic, why are you trying so hard to get this one on topic?
This is nothing but a pissing match, and it's the same match that has been waged the last 17 times this topic has come up. People take stuff off-topic all of the time, but rarely is it to put down other people for their own decisions.
Also, if I get PM'ed complaining about something, I try and help steer the discussion back. Pretty simple.

Angie ,we are waaaaaay beyond that. Thread titles are pointless, and short term memory loss is evident. :wink:
Service in C Ia - Better than it was. I notice no dead spots anymore and get good reception in bldgs and houses.
No dropped calls.
No 3G outside the metro...but you still have Edge which will do the job.
Battery life - it's a 3.5 in screen. You won't get a phone with a screen that size that you can avoid charging every day. But it will get you thru the day.

Seems like only 3 or 4 short pages ago, there was actually relevant content to the OP that people could use.
I'm one who doesn't really buy into the Apple hype. So I make the decision to not buy Apple PCs. Most likely will get an Iphone somewhat soon because I liked it.

Haha, sorry for the hijack. I just can't resist when someone claims how great the device is and then turns around and says they are excited for an update that will add basic functionality that every other phone has had for years. Two claps for you Apple, that only took two years.
The iphone is a fine device, just don't get caught up in the hype. There is nothing on the iphone that you can't get elsewhere. It isn't perfect (neither is anything else). Apple does a great job with form factor and user experience with all of their devices, but I would just advise someone looking at a new device to check out everything on the market and evaluate it based on their personal needs before assuming that the iphone is the be all end all of mobile devices. There are a lot of great devices coming out now, the Palm Pre, the Android devices, the new Blackberries. There are a lot more innovative handsets in the market now compared to when the iphone first launched.

Tend to be the same. In fact, when it comes right down to it, I really have no problems with Apple computers as a whole either. They're not my personal choice for a PC to own, but I had no problem with using them in class when I was getting my JLMC degree, and if I had to use them at work I wouldn't complain either. I also tend to like Apple's other products as well. my iPod Nano is the best music player I have ever owned, and if the iPhone does come to the Verizon network before November 2010 (as some have rumored) that will be my next cell phone.
What I can't stand is those people that choose to worship at the "All Things Apple" altar and their snobbish, "holier-than-thou-I'm-better-than-you" attitude that goes with it - that somehow if you choose to go with a Windows-based product that you are an inferior person in every way imaginable. You literally cannot read a computer purchase advice thread without Apple fanatics crashing the thread and pimping their favorite product as well as trashing everything about Windows, even after the orginal poster asking for the advice says that not only are they not considering purchasing an Apple, but they don't want the advice to go in that direction either (I know this first-hand because I put up such a thread about a year ago asking for advice on an HP that I was interested in buying and even when I posted from the beginning that not only did I have no interest in purchasing an Apple but I didn't want to hear advice about how I should be buying an Apple, I had no less than 10 posters once again pipe in not only about how I SHOULD be buying an Apple, but also implying that I was somehow a lesser human being for considering buying anything other than an Apple).
When you get right down to it, Apple fans tend not to be all that different from Hawkeye fans, just with a little bit more money, better dressed, and don't live in the cardboard box next to the dumpster behind K-mart...
That's pretty much my stance. I still won't buy a Mac yet to this day...I just won't pay for an overpriced Linux OS, but I don't hate them either. They ARE nice units.
As far as the smart phones...frankly, I am not really happy with ANY of them for various reasons. But from a functional perspective I actually like the iPhone slightly best overall.
They all have their problems...the Blackberry Storm right now is biggest on my hate list. It was released far too early with far too many bugs.

And you better bag on everyone that uses a sky caddie or sky caddie like devices too. It's nice being able to play a round, post my scores, and keep all my stats all without having to sit down at the computer in the clubhouse.
I agree that Apple makes great hardware. They also do the best job integrating existing capabilities into a nice form factor and making it easy to use.
And yes, they all have their problems.
I'm cautiously optimistic that the Pre will be everything I wished the iPhone would be, but I also expect it to have some significant faults as well.
I guess time will tell.
I was excited when I first heard about and saw the iPhone, but the more I looked at it, the more I realized that it didn't do anything revolutionary at all, and it would basically be a sideways move onto a worse network for me, all for 3-4 times the cost (at the time) of other, similiarly capable devices.
Other than non-replaceable batteries, I agree.
I question whether the Pre will have the diversity of apps the iPhone does, despite the way I don't like they've handled apps, I do think the leg up they have is the developer network.
I don't think any of them are majorly revolutionary...but from I've seen the iPhone is the more attractive option for most users because of the gaming video quality and some other nice things they've one-upped, not revolutionized, their opposition in.
I read that article...I still just don't see the multi-task as that major of an issue for the average user.
It'll be interesting to see where we are in a couple years when all these companies have more time under their belt.
My boss has an iPhone and travels a fair amount (both in-state and cross-country) for what we do. He loves it, has always said he has fairly good coverage almost everywhere he goes, and does use quite a few "gimmicky" apps on a regular basis, including urbanspoon and shazam. He's trying to convince another one of our writers to get one, too.
His biggest complaint has been the battery - the fact that he basically has it plugged in, charging, if he's not using it. I think that has to do with the fact he has two teenage sons who like to play around on it and wear the battery down more than anything. Can't tell you what the cost of his plan is, because I'm sure it's a family plan that covers 4 phones, two of which are also used as business phones and two of which are used by teenagers.

Yeah, the "holier-than-thou" crowd exists on both sides, don't fool yourself. Look no further than Jon's questions about transitioning to an iMac and you'll see the exact scenario you just detailed, but flipped.
Look, these debates are rather silly and the staunch supporters of either "side" generally ruin them, as this one has been. It's really simple...
- Do your research
- Find the computer/device that best suits you
- Buy it
- Enjoy
I'm not sure one computer/phone is clearly the overall best. There are simply different ones with different features that suit different people with different requirements/expectations.
