Iowa vs Iowa State

[/LIST]
Huh?

Stanzi's First Game:

  • 22/34 Passing for 242 yards and 1 TD
  • 5 Carries for -36 yards and 0 TD
Arnaud's First Game:

  • 16/28 Passing for 227 yards and 2 TD
  • 16 Carries for 83 yards and 1 TD

* Stanzi was much more accurate than Arnaud
* Stanzi would have had 45 more yards and another TD if his TD pass to Chaney would not have been called back.
* Including sacks into rushing yards is ridiculous. Plus, the QB running the football is not a part of Iowa's offense like it is for ISU.

Serious question: Is there a fanbase in any sport that more consisteantly overestimates their team's talent, by such a wide margin, than hawk fans?

Who has the edge, Florida QB or Iowa QB
hawk fan: "Push. Maybe slight edge Iowa. And here are twenty twisted reasons that make perfect sense in my warped reality........"

QB- ISU slight edge. Arnaud is asked to do a LOT more than Stanzi is.

RB- ISU big edge. Right now I'd say there's a decent chance our top 4 RBs would be starting for Iowa.

WR- ISU big edge. Iowa has some young talent, but why couldn't they get open against UNI's all new CBs and safeties?

TE- Iowa slight edge. Moeaki is very good, but Iowa fans don't understand just how good Colin Franklin could be this year.

OL- even. That might surprise most people, but until Iowa's O-line is all healthy and back... I think ISU's is just as good right now. Iowa's current O-line could not block UNI.

DL- big Iowa advantage. Not even close.

LB- big Iowa advantage. Not even close.

DBs- even. Spievey and LJ are equal IMO. Sash and Sims are close. ISU is slightly better at the other two spots.

KR/PR- slight ISU edge. LJ and Sims are both very dangerous KRs. Lenz was ok in his first game. Paki doesn't scare me as Iowa's KR.

K- even. Mahoney nailed a 50 yarder in game one.

P- even. Iowa's punter is very, very good. ISU's is too though.

Youre totally right, because his rushing abilities arent showcased in sacks because you cant run when youre on the ground right?

It should scare Iowa's fans to death that Stanzi was forced to pass more than Arnaud did when ISU runs a no huddle spread offense. Iowa HAD to virtually abandon the running game halfway through the 3rd quarter. Not good.

QB: small ISU advantage
Stanzi looked awful under any kind of pressure Saturday. Both have a really bad habit of locking onto receivers.

RB: big ISU advantage
Robinson has proven he can do it. No running back on Iowa's roster has proven much.

WR: small ISU advantage
Depth goes to ISU, and ISU has better combo receivers.

OL: small Iowa advantage
Run blocking I'll take Iowa, pass blocking I'll take ISU. Iowa's pushed around UNI in the second half, ISU's just tries to open up holes.

TE: small Iowa advantage
Moeaki is very good when he's healthy, which is nearly never. Franklin isn't a slouch either.

DL: big Iowa advantage
Just because ISU's is plain not very good.

LB: small Iowa advantage
Iowa's go sideline to sideline much better than ISU's.

DB: small ISU advantage
Iowa's DL and LB's bail out their DB's better than ISU's, but ISU's got the better secondary.

P: push
both Donahue and Brandtner can hold their own

K: small Iowa advantage
Iowa doesn't kick it to the 10 yard line every time

KR: big Iowa State advantage
Sims and LJ are both above average returners and ISU has plenty of practice in this department

If you want to talk about passing percentage..then yes, but how about Stanzi missing WIDE open receivers?? didn't see Arnaud do that.

A penalty is a penalty...there are refs in this game for a reason..so...what if??

Agreed, Sacks should go down as - team rushing yards. But still how many rushing yards would he have if the sacks weren't counted.

Also, probably half of Arnaud's rushing yards were on "non designed running plays" He read the defense and when the linebackers take huge drops and the middle of the pocket and field were wide open, you take off and get possitive yardage.

Stanzi can't do that.

Oh, so we can add things that didn't happen and subtract things that did happen?
You should have specified before causing both of us all this hassle. :jimlad:

Much more accurate? Really, that's your argument? What is the unit for measurement you used to come to that conclusion?

If a play wouldn't have been called back? Something about "if my aunt had **** she'd be my uncle comes to mind". Then again, you'd find some bizzaro way to say Stanzi is better regardless of the facts placed in front of you. Fans like you are laughable.

If's and but's, candy and nuts...yada yada yada...that is no reason.

Neither were accurate. At all. Stanzi was plain pathetic in the first half and looked pretty solid in the second half. He actually had a couple balls in the second that were dropped. With that said, 7 yard passes to the TE aren't hard throws

Stanzi should have been more accurate than Arnaud. He threw what, 2? deep passes? Stanzi didn't prove at all that he can throw to the sidelines on a consistent basis in college yet. He's good with the throws between the hashes, but telegraphs his sideline throws.

Re-watch the play. Without the hold, he doesn't get that throw off because he wasn't going to be able to step into it.

No it's really not. Can he avoid pressure or is he a statue? Stanzi looked like a statue. Collapse the pocket and he panics.

There is clearly good Stanzi and bad Stanzi. Even the biggest of Iowa homers can't dispute that. And when good, Stanzi is a solid starting college QB. His play (as with many QBs) is directly related to the amount of pressure put on him. Some QBs struggle even more when pressured and from what I've seen, Stanzi is one of those guys at this point.

I expect we'll see a better version of Stanzi this Saturday simply because we will be very lucky to put even close to the amount of pressure UNI gave in the first half. Not only because the Iowa starting line will be back but our defense just can't pressure the quarterback.

Our secondary will need to be on its game as well as our offense clicking well to win. Otherwise you can compare what unit is better all you want - but Iowa wins by 10+ unless the previous sentence comes true.

A lot of you guys are underestimating Iowa's WRs. Lots of talent and depth there.

I give the WR position a push. I guess I don't see where ISU's are so great. I like them but I call it a solid unit. Not a great unit.
