Iowa vs Iowa State

Want to know the only stat that really matters fellas? Stanzi: 9-4 *w/ Greene Arnaud: 2-10. I'd say that's a pretty fair stat considering you want to compare a spread offense QB's stats straight up vs. a pro style QB. Some understand that it's a pretty bogus comparison, however others are still hanging their hat on that for whatever reason.

Fixed it for you.

The way I see it. Both quarterbacks have gone through major changes in the off season as far as personnel and system goes. Right now, the only stat that matters is both quarterbacks are 1-0

I know what you're going for, but I don't think it's a valid argument. That's like saying "Take X team's best player away and see what they'll do." Take Arnaud away from ISU last year and where do they end up? I agree Iowa's offense has/would have had bumps in the road without Greene, but the fact of the matter is he was there and they had the record they had. Not much you're going to do besides play hypotheticals to take it away.

To be honest, I think Stanzi has the moxy to be a pass first offense, and I wouldn't mind it if it was our best option. Let him get settled in and I think he will prove to be a very solid QB.

It's been close to 24 hours, and I still can't get over CyPride saying Bulaga, Angerer, Hunter, Edds, Spievey, Moeaki, Klug, Binns, Clayborn, Ballard, Richardson, Calloway, Vandervelde or Sash would have no shot at starting for ISU...not to mention I think McNutt, DJK and Stross could see plenty of PT as well. Let's turn the table on that chief, how many ISU starters could start at Iowa? Wait, on second thought, don't answer that.

What? You do know that Arnaud has been a spread offense QB for a grand total of one game, right? So no. Comparing the stats from last year is not spread vs pro style.

Stanzi wasn't 9-4....some of those wins belong to Jake Christensen.

In fact Stanzi has never won a close game on the road in a hostile environment.

Of the road games he started:

at Indiana, at Minnesota -- won against horrible teams with no real home field advantage.

at Illinois -- lost; Stanzi: 11/29, 2 INT's, 11 rushes for 9 yards, 6 sacks, 1 fumble lost

at Michigan State -- lost; Stanzi: 15/22, 1 INT, 5 rushes for -26 yards, 2 fumbles lost

Let's not overlook the fact that Stanzi cannot play on the road in front of a hostile crowd!

What would you exactly call last year's offense then? I realize there are different types of "spread" offenses, but wasn't the goal of your offense last year to spread defenses out and to let your QB throw, hand it off, or run if it was there?

I guess if 1=some, then yes, you are correct. I find the statement that Stanzi can't play on the road completely laughable. I'd venture to say that the Metro Dome was easily louder than anything the crowd at Jack Trice can offer. Next up is Illinois. He lead Iowa back from a 24-9 deficit in the 4th quarter to tie it up only to lose on a last second field goal, no biggie.

You definitely saved the best for last, Monty, even bolded it for me too. Stanzi cannot play on the road in front of a hostile crowd. Mmmk. Well, I might be able to go with that, but let me ask you this: How many games has Arnaud won on the road? By my tally, Stanzi won 2 road games and a 3rd at a neutral site by a combined total of 131-19. Average points per game: 43.67. Average point spread: 37.33.

To sum it all up. Stanzi lost 3 road games last year by a combined 7 points. (I'll give you the Pitt game even though he sat the 2nd half) To compare that with Arnaud, who lost 6 road games last year by a combined 97 points. You tell me who the road warrior is.

What actually happened -

QB - Advantage Iowa only by default of AA being so bad
RB - Push - both teams had a RB go for about 100 yrds
WR - Advantage Iowa open receivers running all over the field
TE - Advantage IA by virtue of reisner's td grab
Oline - Push, both units held up well

Defense
DL - Push, neither got much pressure or held up well against the run
LB - Advantage Iowa, good in coverage, a few tipped passes
DBs - Advantage Iowa, by virtue of the safeties mostly. Sims was great for you guys. Banks was worse than castillo and spievey and LJ wash, tho LJ had that bad penalty.

This is not a gloating post. Just to go back and compare what actually happened after all the speculation.
