Iowa Beat Writers

This isn’t exactly on topic, but perhaps you can weigh in. I’ve seen several people with Iowa license plates…and the plate letters make up an anti-Cy/ISU message. What’s up with that? Just can’t understand why you wouldn’t go pro-Hawks. Seems to suggest you spend a lot of energy hating another team instead of liking your own…
I guess some people just love to hate but I agree that's pretty lame

Completely agree. Very Solid defense.

Much less stress on the D, week to week, when facing one ‘good’ offense all year. That offense didn’t seem to have issues with that defense. For comparison, the next highest rated offense they’ll face/have faced is ranked 75 (Purdue).

You have played one good offense, Penn State and gave up 31 points, the rest of the division has below average offenses. It has less to do with the amount of time the defense is on the field and more to do with the teams they are playing suck. EIU is 3rd in the division for points scored on the year, as poor as they have been EIU has scored more points than 4 other division teams plus more than Michigan St. has scored this season.

They are very good on defense, but they are not elite, and they are playing crappy offensives week after week.
EXACTLY! We have years and years of data that proves every time they play a team with an offensive pulse they get trounced. Isn't the avg point difference like 25 points each of their last five times they've faced a team in the top 25? It's easy for a defense to look elite when you play junior high level competition every week.

When the hoks run the table with their remaining regular season schedule, the discussion will be hot and heavy as to which seed they should get in the CFP....in the taverns for sure.

Seems like the hawks are good for one perplexing loss down the stretch...though looking at their schedule not sure who that would be.

Maybe in Lincoln if the Fighting Rhules keep improving?

The more they win, the longer Brian sticks around. It's a win for us, and a major conundrum for them. If you talk to a rational hok fan they secretly wanted the Penn State game to begin the process of getting him removed. Now he and pops can just point to the W/L record again and buy another year which is the worst long-term thing possible for that program with the realignment happening.

I don't know, I hear/see plenty of griping about the pathetic offense from even the derpiest of Hokroaches, but maybe by then they'll have convinced themselves that the defense and Terrific Twinkle Toes Tory Taylor can overcome all comers.

Hardcore hawk I know, who Said Petras was better than Purdy, is hoping Iowa loses just enough to avoid the CCG and make their 1/1 bowl again.

I think besides the Pac 12 you can argue every other p5 conference has underperformed too. Georgia's schedule is incredibly weak for SEC team. Then Michigan has played mostly nobody and half the year is over.

Probably good that its going to a 12 team playoff format in the near future then. More teams with a chance to put up or shut up regardless of SOS.

According to Sagarin Iowa has played the 19th toughest schedule to date and ISU has played the 9th toughest. I'm guessing Iowa's SOS will drop pretty significantly moving forward, but I'm surprised it is ranked that high this far into the year.

FPI had Iowa's 16th and Iowa State's 11th. I don’t think people realize how watered down schedules have become with the size of these conferences, SEC only playing 8 conference games, some teams playing exclusively cupcakes in nonconference

I'm sure Iowa's will go way down moving forward. I'm guessing it will end up like 50th or something.

I think that would be very low end more than 1/2 the season is over and SEC still has its week 11 bye week. If I had to guess it'll range from 30th to 50th
