That sound you will hear is tens of millions of remotes clicking over to watch something else.
Considering they had no help from the offense, I think PSU had to work for their yards/points.
Almost 30 first downs and less than 400 yards with 3/4 of game clock tells me they had no explosive plays.
I can name 7 teams with highly easy schedules right away. Just look at the big ten west.
Iowa is the only team in the top 75 (79 actually) that has either offense or defense above ranked higher than 100. Iowa offense comes in at #121 power rankings. And no, I don't know how they compile these.
Iowa will only face 1 top 25 offense during the regular season (Penn St = 24).
Got to keep those defensive numbers up there (but I will give due, they have a good defense).
I give them good, I think elite is stretching it quite a bit. Play JV offenses and you look WAY better.
It’s also skewed because their offense is one of the worst in the history of D1 football so they are on the field a lot.
Completely agree. Very Solid defense.
Much less stress on the D, week to week, when facing one ‘good’ offense all year. That offense didn’t seem to have issues with that defense. For comparison, the next highest rated offense they’ll face/have faced is ranked 75 (Purdue).

Their defense is very, very good, but not elite. They are fourth in the conference in points allowed, behind Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State. In seven games they have given up 104 points, Wisconsin has give up 107, Michigan 47 and in one fewer games Ohio State has given up 58 and Penn State in one less game 48 points.
The three teams in the East are elite, EIU is just very good. ISU has only given up 140 points one third of that was to OU.
I think besides the Pac 12 you can argue every other p5 conference has underperformed too. Georgia's schedule is incredibly weak for SEC team. Then Michigan has played mostly nobody and half the year is over.
No offense but it’s 2023 and people can watch multiple games on multiple screens.
Using that logic, how many points did Iowa give up to Penn State? 31. So 73 points in their other 6 games, the most was 16 points to MSU and 7 were a defensive TD by MSU.
Out of 65 P5 teams they are 8th in ppg allowed. And Iowa's defense is on the field A LOT because their offense is inept. Much easier for Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State to have elite defenses because their offense keep the ball. And since those 4 are high scoring, they make opposing offenses one dimensional - passing.
You have played one good offense, Penn State and gave up 31 points, the rest of the division has below average offenses. It has less to do with the amount of time the defense is on the field and more to do with the teams they are playing suck. EIU is 3rd in the division for points scored on the year, as poor as they have been EIU has scored more points than 4 other division teams plus more than Michigan St. has scored this season.
They are very good on defense, but they are not elite, and they are playing crappy offensives week after week.
This isn’t exactly on topic, but perhaps you can weigh in. I’ve seen several people with Iowa license plates…and the plate letters make up an anti-Cy/ISU message. What’s up with that? Just can’t understand why you wouldn’t go pro-Hawks. Seems to suggest you spend a lot of energy hating another team instead of liking your own…
