Iowa Beat Writers

This week has been incredible. I honestly can't even eat all this popcorn fast enough.
My fondest wish, beyond ISU being very successful, is for EIU to follow Nebbie's dive into the burning dumpster of college athletics.

I don't want to jinx it but this feels like it COULD be the very start of something so beautiful - I may weep tears of joy.

You see, Kirk Ferentz is such a micromanager that he's responsible for the QB and offensive problems, but there's no possible way he knew he was running a racist program.

LMAO they've literally ran the same offense going from KOK, Greg Davis, and now Brian. KOK and Greg both fell on grenades for Kirk yet nothing changed. It's hilarious to watch.

Ah, the good ol' days of 60s & 70s Iowa football. It's a shame the rivalry wasn't happening at that time. We would've racked up a lot of wins.

This Nevada team is BAD

Yeah, they'll be puffing their chests again after they take down the mighty Wolf Pack (NOT North Carolina State).

For those of you old enough to remember the Hayden Fry era, this is feeling like the '98 season which was Hayden's last. The game kind of passed him by, and that's the same feeling I get with Ferentz. There's still a long way to go for this season, however, so who knows.

When they had Eikholt on The Drive on Monday, I honestly really thought he was speaking some truth about Iowa's oh so tragic struggles. Honestly, it made me feel like he's the type of guy I'd grab a beer with and talk sports. That said, he sounded more like a fan who calls into Sound Off on I80 than an actual reporter. Dude was on the verge of tears with how emotional he was about their struggles.
No credentialed beat writer should be banging their hands on the table and saying that the fanbase deserves to know why Petras is still the starter. Shut up and do your job like asking tough questions but throwing a fit on a radio show is cringe. How has that fan base not come to grips with the fact that Iowa just doesn't have a QB? They saw Padilla last year and his numbers were worse than Spencer's.

I was just thinking about this very thing after the game this weekend. Iowa State's program is much better than they were in 1998, but ISU stopped a 15 game losing streak to Iowa in Kinnick that year and Iowa went on to go 3 and 8 and Fry retired.

Also, I remember a Hlas article in the Gazette that morning of the Iowa/ISU game that mentioned the only way Iowa State could beat Iowa in Football that year was on an episode of Fantasy Island, or something like that. "Da plane, boss! Da plane!"

A little bit. That year the longest Cy-Hawk streak was broken. They struggled to score points in a lot of games that year but their defense was worse than the current one so far. They ended that season with 4 straight blowout losses and 6 blowout losses overall.

Mac did them a favor by just running the football in the second half. That could have been a 41-9 game otherwise.

That last team under Fry was bad. His last couple of recruiting classes were not good which was reflective in Kirks first couple seasons at Iowa. Iowa DOMINATED the in state recruiting at that time and Kirk hauled in some really good Iowa kids that helped turn the program around.
