Eickholt and Bock were determined over the weekend to fend off the reality that Fran is going to lay a goose egg in the portal this off-season

And Fran announced they're done in the portal. I believe in the past two off-seasons they've acquired 4 players to complete their roster. Rebraca (an actual transfer), Ash and Ogundele (originally Hawkeyes but were needed back on the team), and Mulvey (re-classified).

I wonder which player Fran will ask to go into the portal next year so he can pull them back out of it.

I'm just wondering what their roster is going to look like overall. As it stands with Kris being included they only have 11 scholarship players and 3 walk-ons.

I mean, why is a guy in whatever year it is for him at Iowa still having issues filling a roster?

I would guess they put the Rock Island commit on scholarship and bank the last one. If not him, then probably that Kingsbury walk-on.

Fran can't be tempted to play a 13 man rotation if he only has 11 players. Chess not checkers.

That'd be 3 straight years in moving a walkon to scholarship.. lol

Cause he's stuck with trying to recreate the team from the movie Hoosiers. If Gene Hackman can take a team of white guys to a championship, then so can White Magic. Unfortunately, there's just not enough high level players that fit his criterion available.

It's fine. Fran is one of the best at getting his kids to buy in. He can polish a 0-star turd into a 3-star caliber athlete. Look at guys nobody else wanted that turned into good players for them: Kriener, Baer, Bohannon, White, and Pemsl just off the top of my head. Then he has also turned your 2 and 3-star players into the Luka Garza's and Murray brothers of the world. It has rarely ever looked good on paper for Fran, and the media really does an embarrassing job of trying to sugarcoat things, but he usually finds a way to make it work and get them to compete.

Hawk fans and media (is there really any difference?) would just spin it to how impressive Fran's walk-on program is. He is creating scholarship athletes out of walk-on material! :D
Very reminiscent of the football walk-on program nebraska had in the 70’s and 80’s

I'd like to also point out that 6 of the 8 players you just mentioned were born and raised Iowa fans lol.

"good players for them: Kriener, Baer, Bohannon, White, and Pemsl"

This unpacks itself really.
Pemsl was terrible. White was by far the best and had a sip of coffee in the NBA summer league after being drafted by the Wizards.

Jbo was no doubt a good shooter but his legacy is more that he played for so long more than how good he actually was. Kriener and Baer were fine role players.

Either way, I'm not going to prop up Fran for getting guys to buy into the program that grew up bleeding black and gold lol.
