I think he was suspended for questioning why the Hawkeyes didn't have a scrappy PG with more of a tan like one of their opponents.

Gary was suspended for a comment he made to Bobby Hanson, when he thought they were off air, but apparently not. I think if his comments would have been generic like having scrappy PG he wouldn't have been suspended. But he called out a specific backup player:

The road map is getting a new coach and completely changing the recruiting philosophy. The current road map gets to consistently out scoring bad teams while getting smoked any time they face a good team that’s motivated to play. Fran has mastered mediocrity and it’s made him a whole lot of $$$
