Things that are "within the rules"

Stealing bases when you are up 10 runs
Onside kicking every time you score
Pressing up 20 with 2 minutes left in the game
Bunting in the 9th inning in when you are down 5 runs, and the guy on the mound is 2 outs from a perfect game.
Stalling an entire quarter in high school basektball

The local ones saw an uptick in HS sponsorships. They realized that more and more people were tuning into the free broadcasts at home and not having to pay 5/6 a head to sit in a stinky, hot gym and watch warm ups.

Yes, and?

Being jerkish and unsportsmanlike still isn’t against the rules (well, some of the time), and still isn’t “cheating the game.” All of us are welcome to call out teams and coaches for doing stupid stuff … but I’d say there‘s a difference between stealing bases when you’re up 10 runs (is that really increasing your chances of winning a game you’ve basically already won?) and stalling an entire quarter in high school basketball (that’s a strategy that could actually help you keep a game close and maybe win).

I’m not arguing against the shot clock (that’s a good thing for basketball) or arguing for coaches who want to run up scores/keep the press on when the game is lost/be d!cks in general. What I am calling out is histrionic overdramatic whining over a basketball team taking advantage of the rules as written to try to keep a game close/stay competitive.

(And remember, pressing when you’re down by a lot can actually help you win the game, once in a blue moon. Maybe not 20 points down with 2 minutes left, but then … UNI was up by 12 points with 35 seconds left before blowing that lead to Texas A&M in 2016. Sometimes knowing when it’s really over isn’t so easy to figure out.)

I used to be all about it but I just think they should call intentional fouls when guys don’t make a play on the ball. You wouldn’t see the stupid put two hands on a guy’s waist from behind crap called at the end of the game if the team was going to get the ball back. Call the rules as written and we don’t need it.

The early 80's. You can thank ISU, Oklahoma, Houston, Loyola-Marymount, Providence and a handful of other schools for letting their players shoot and not letting the game go completely to the stall offense.

The shot clock exists because of UNC vs UVA in 1982 ACC championship game. Dean Smith's UNC would hold the ball for minutes at a time out high without advancing the offense to counter UVA and Ralph Sampson. And that was with Michael Jordan.

The defense had to create action ONLY if they were behind. If the offense is behind and was willing to take the loss there was nothing preventing them from sitting on the ball without any action.

That iowa/Indiana game where Knight had the players take the ball for second half and run over 10 minutes off the clock with no shots in a four corners offense was the final nail of non shot clock. That was the covered game on when many just had the three major networks that day so all I got to watch and it was dreadful to watch.

Hawk trolls got him perma banned somehow. I like to think that one of the dumber Hawk trolls is actually some crazy Twins alt cause I miss him, but I doubt it, I think our trolls just really are that delusional

He got caught making some potentially libelous claims about UI football recruit "financing", and then mentioned something about talking to his lawyer and deleting his account, and then deleted the incriminating thread he started (but none of the other ones) and we haven't heard from him since.

Whether he is banned, deleted, or only posting in premium forums, I do not know.
