Iowa Beat Writers

Many if not most of these media outlets are struggling in today's times...putting their limited resources with the biggest tavern fan base. God forbid they would actually have to cover two major programs.

And yet, I remember it being the same way before the Internet.

They want the stoke the rivalry fire. Means money in their pocket. The goal is not to give Iowa State and Iowa fans a reason to all sit around the camp fire singing kum ba yah together.

This has nothing to do with beat writers, but KCRG just showed the Iowa State score vs LSU and talked about the win for 15 seconds. Not even one highlight. That is why I stopped watching the local media in Cedar Rapids. I happened to be watching tonight because of the weather and they teased the Iowa State men. I stuck around for a 15 second graphic. KCRG....GFY.

I think they couldn’t show highlights until the Wisconsin game was over. But they could have talked about the game.

Gloves, man, the Hawks should have worn gloves to overcome the Wilson conspiracy.

Hlas' latest column, "Up became Down" is classic hok stroke. You'd never know Iowa State won 20, beat TOE by 20, was a top 10 defensive team, or came close to leading the nation in Quad 1 wins. Instead, Hlas questions whether Iowa State was even tournament worthy.
All to stroke his readers and their sad over-inflated view of their chances in the NCAA.

What a sad, angry old man Hlas has become.

I couldn't read the article but yeah looked like he drank the B1G Kool Aid.

Throwing anything against the wall to make it sound like Iowa was better than the results would show.

Based on his Twitter feed, it looks as if Hlas was still in Buffalo Friday night. They really had no doubts Iowa was going to be playing there beyond Thursday.
You wonder why the Gazette would pay to keep Hlas there. What would any Gazette reader want him reporting on there?

Correction. Looks like he came back Friday. There's another tweet from him where he said he was listening to the radio on his drive from Chicago to Cedar Rapids.

I've always thought Hlas was a good sports writer, but he really missed the mark on what makes a full season success story.
It's almost as if Hlas got drunk reading Seth Davis' glowing hok clips and is now in the middle of the painful hangover.

I scrolled right past before reading his entire tweet previewing the article. It struck me as well that he was forgetting about everything that happened before March.

ISU has had a good season and was worthy of an NCAA berth. Nobody seems to remember the last 4-game streak we had to seal our berth. The Tech blowout/Iowa Big 10 tourney completely warped everyone's perceptions.

ISU kicked the **** out of Iowa. ISU got to #8 in the country. ISU had a disappointing but understandable Big 12 season and won enough games to probably be better than an 11 seed. ISU got smoked by one of the best teams in the country in TT. But somehow Hawkeye fans are acting like ISU is undeserving and/or came out of nowhere to win in the first round.

ISU is a good team and has been all season. Get over it, Hoks.

Good point. Maybe that's a new rule by the NCAA or CBS. It never used to be. Local stations could show highlights of games as long as they were completed. Don't know for sure now.

Sears, Chad, Dotcherman and all the other Iowa media ball washers can suck a fat one! Gonna love to see what they write about tomorrow!!
