It would be interesting if the new Big12 could find interest in a football conference rivalry series. We already have one with SEC in hoops, maybe that would help in setting something up for football. If no interest by SEC, then I would approach Pac12 to do football & hoops. Then drop SEC Hoops Challenge. They need the Big12/SEC hoops Challenge to improve that conferences hoops credibility

The other thing new Big12 should consider is 10 conference games. At minimum, Big12 should push for 10 games against P5 opponents for team to be eligible for playoff
The ACC and PAC just set something up with the B1G.

This would be an incredibly bad idea. Anything to add more guaranteed losses to your conference is bad and hurts perception as well as hurting the formula to get into the playoff. Big 12 is going to be eligible for playoffs, don't make it harder to get there

I was very surprised to see the Gazette re-print some of the nasty tweets from tavernhoks about Petras. New low for the Gazette.
I agree - Mike Hlas quoted several in his column. Gee, that just multiplies the exposure of the Hawk fan low-lifes' tweets, which is what Hlas was "criticizing."

When the Big 12 finally is scheduling for 12 teams they should announce that they are considering playing just 8 conference games since that formula seems to put more conference teams into the playoff. Even if they don't end up doing it, it might draw some attention to the idiocy of the entire SEC padding their records with an extra cupcake each every year.

I saw somewhere that the B12 was hoping for a 50 percent tv rights increase before OUT left. Odds are that we end up some somewhere is the ballpark of what we have currently. Which will be way behind the SEC and B10, on par with ACC. I’m assuming the PAC will be the same as well but their deal will be really interesting to watch.

Staying on par with the ACC and Pac 12 is really all that matters and this will more than likely happen. Making B1G or SEC money really doesn't change anything. We have made HUGE upgrades and will be able to continue top do so with what we will be bringing in.

In order to maximize a new TV deal there is now way the Big 12 drops to 8 conference games.

Currently each conference school is receiving around 30 million per year from their tier one TV deal. We know that each year a contract comes open for renewal, that number goes up. The question that no one seems to know is "what is the value of the Big 12 without OU and UT?". Some say that is a .50% loss in value, others would say it will be less.

After the showing and ratings of ISU, OSU, Baylor and Cincinnati over the past couple of days, I would bet the numbers of the new TV deal will be closer to 30 million than the 10 to 15 that some people were predicting when all this came out. Live sports are the money maker of programing currently, that is not going to be changing in the near future. The Big 12 needs to schedule like the SEC, play the bare minimum of 8 conference games, get 3 or 4 cupcakes for non-conference and build up the resumes of the conference schools. It"s worked for IEU and the SEC for years, the Big 12 needs to do the exact same thing.

Expand the playoffs and making sure that each current P5 school gets a bid and the Big 12 will be fine.

I could see $25-$30 million, but the Big 10 and SEC are already at about $50 and rumors are the Big 10 is set to sign another massive deal in the next year or so to make it to the 60s.

Lmao. So?

Like you said you’re already making more and hasn’t resulted in you separating from the Big 12

Heck, Cincy Houston and UCF are at $10 million right now and are as good as the BIG.

It might be the reality if the Big12 wants to maximize it's TV money. Do you think our media partners find value in televising UNI, SE MO or Ohio?

Also, the objective is to keep the playing field level and raise the bar. Why should the ACC & SEC be allowed to play 8 conference games? Currently the Big12, Pac12 and Big10 play 9 conference games.

I want a level playing field. But instead of watering down team schedules. Make all P5 schools play 11 P5 games. Play 10 conference and 1 non-con P5 game.

Also, if each P5 gets a guaranteed berth or two, isn't more conference games a better way to level the playing field to determine a conferences auto qualifier(s).

I am somewhat indifferent, if the playoff requirement was 9 conference games AND 2 P5 non-conference. But I guarantee Bama would schedule the likes of Kansas, Duke, Arizona, etc. to meet the requirement. With a 10 conference game requirement, the conference schools have it in their best interest to have a similar SOS over the 10 games.

An alliance with the SEC would be really awkward. ESPN would have to start hyping matchups with teams they have tried to downplay. That said, if the alliance is willing to play hardball (I don't think they are that serious)it would be the only options for the SEC non con. That would lead to one of two things:

1. ESPN gets on board with the new big 12 and sells them as quality non conference opponents for the SEC

or

2. ESPN starts a campaign against the importance of non conference games as a way to feed the brainwashed masses more of their pro SEC propaganda (see thee strategy they use for bowl games when the SEC isn't winning them all ). Downplaying them until the SEC is allow to schedule 4 FCS teams a year and not catch flack.

Yea, but with that logic 12 playing 9 or 10 would then be incremental TV $.

Level up, not down!
Is it worth it though?

We’re not going to compete in revenue. AT ALL. We need to stack the deck in our favor on the field. Usually that means as many conference wins as possible, although mindful of strength of record to a degree.

Use the AAC and Boise model that’s allowed programs to excel in winning percentage and raise their profiles.

I would do what the acc and sec are doing until it is outlawed. 8 conference games. You could encourage a P5 non-con game but not mandate it. Does the SEC mandate a P5 non-con? Nope. Kentucky gets gushed over for their 10 win season. Guess what, Iowa was the first team they best that has a winning record.

Also need to copy the SEC's scheduling of big conference games early in the season. The b1g is starting to catch on too.

Last year is much different if Iowa and Penn St don't beat highly rated Indiana and Wisconsin teams early on. That made their matchup the biggest game of the year to that point, it was 2 vs 4 or something like that.

Pretty sure the Hawks jumped 7 or 8 spots after beating Indiana, a team that finished 2-10 week 1. It's all smoke and mirrors but we'll need every bit of it to sell this league early on.
