This. If Boyle ends up on the defensive side of the ball at Iowa I have a feeling it will be at the LB position. He's already 6'2 215 and he clearly has the athletic ability for it. He could easily add another 15 pounds in a year or two, and he would look like a prototypical LB. I think he gets his shot at QB first, and in my opinion Iowa would be making a mistake if they didn't let him at least show what he can do there.
Couple of comments on the rest of the in-state recruits...
Whether you choose to admit it or not it's always going to be a challenge for ISU to snag in-state recruits who are OL. For every Campos there are three or four other guys who choose Iowa. Ferentz has as strong a pedigree there as anyone in college football. Certainly so when it comes to turning unheralded recruits into NFL draft picks. When he has so many examples to point to you can't really blame guys Newborg and the Paulsen twins for choosing to go to Iowa. Even if they grew up ISU fans it would be wise for them to make their decision based on what is in the best interest of their future.
Definitely not many skill position recruits in-state this year.
Really interesting to me that Meeker hasn't received an offer from ISU or Iowa. Makes me wonder if it's an attitude or motivation issue? Not trying to start rumors but you have to wonder at this point...
Curious as to why ISU hasn't seemed to make any offers. Claiming that they aren't really interested in any of these guys is a bit ridiculous. Maybe they knew they didn't have much of a chance with any of them? I don't see why you wouldn't at least try if you were the ISU coaching staff. Even though this class is thin in skill position talent I firmly believe you win and lose games at the line of scrimmage. There's no excuse in my opinion for not offering the Paulsen twins or Newborg unless they just flat out knew they didn't have any interest. Might be worth going after Meeker at this point.
This is what confuses me too. I've seen some people say "meh, not talented enough". That is BS. These kids would be just as talented as most that we have signed in the last 5 years. Especially the Paulsen twins. I know Iowa will always get the pick of the litter in Iowa but why not at least offer?
Yeah... I really don't know. You aren't going to get them if you don't try. I suppose if the evidence was strong enough to suggest you didn't have a chance then maybe the fact you didn't offer saves some face? If that even makes sense. Basically, you can then claim "well we didn't even offer" even if you were truly interested. After Rhoads press conference where he bagged on Iowa and ND for continuing to recruit Lazard maybe he would rather be able to say we didn't offer than make the offer and then lose the recruit to his in-state rival.
Seems silly, but a lot of people felt like his press conference that day was silly as well (including myself). I don't know why else they wouldn't offer. You can't logically claim they were not interested, and the whole argument that Rhoads is going after a different style of lineman is pure hogwash. If they truly were not interested then you have to question what the heck they are thinking.
If the Paulsen twins are so good why do they not have any other offers? If Iowa is always going to get the pick of the litter how did we get the top in-state recruit the last 2 years? I guess I like our in-state offensive linemen that CPR has signed over the last few years. Dagel, Lalk, Campos and Glenn look like they have some talent. I just wish there would have been a decent in-state defensive tackle or two after Jensen.
The same guy that picked Iowa State over Iowa and was a Hawk fan. But you know Iowa picks and chooses.

Ive got a question that has been bugging me for some time.
Why does it matter if we win/lose the recruits in the state? I know Iowa produces some good talent, but cant ISU consistently get better recruits from other recruiting pipelines?

It doesn't matter who wins the instate recruiting battle. I would like to see ISU get a few more OL out of the state because I think that is where the state of Iowa can produce some really good talent. But Iowa has been THE place to go for instate OL, so that will be tough.
I do like Campos, Glenn, Lalk, and Dagel though.
As far as skill players go, I'm not too worried. Yeah, the state produces some skill players every now and then, but for the most part, I'm happy with going to Texas and Florida for a lot of these guys.
You don't see a lot of Tim Dwight's or Allen Lazard's come around very often.
Yes, of course they can... But they don't. If they were getting better recruits elsewhere then it would absolutely make sense for them to pass on the in-state talent. However, as someone previously mentioned, several of these guys are rated higher than 3/4 of ISU's average recruit. There's no reason not to at least try to go after them in my opinion.
My bad - meant O line. Was awesome to steal Campos but I don't expect that to be the norm. Would be nice if it was though

100% agree on going out of state for skill positions. The once a decade kid like Banks, Dwight or Lazard is a rarity in this state. Better to bring them in from Florida, Texas or somewhere else.

Several of the in-state guys that ISU apparently hasn't gone after are rated higher than the average ISU recruit. I was referring to this guy's post:
"Yet the top 3 in IA are rated higher than 20 of the 25 recruits we just signed, and only 2 of the 25 we signed were actually rated higher than Meeker/Paulsens. If that's terrible, what do you think of the class we just signed?"
It doesn't make sense why they wouldn't at least try to go after some of these guys. They are in their own backyard, and the state of Iowa can absolutely produce excellent offensive lineman. I'm saying it doesnt make sense why they wouldn't make some offers. You never know what these guys are capable of. Brandon Scherff was a 3 star recruit and he very well could end up being a top 10 pick in next year's draft. Yes, I know he did have an ISU offer but some of these guys are rated as high as he was at that time. The Paulsen twins are both 3 star recruits.
