Ideal Big 12 Tourney Draw

Ignoring the percentages of each scenario, it's boggling how in 20 of the 32, OU finishes 9th. Never would have envisioned that a month ago.

I put this in a spreadsheet. OU is 17.4% to be 6th, 22.2% to be 7th, 28.7% to be 8th and 31.8% to be 9th

Here is a different visual that shows cumulative seeding odds for the last 5 games:

That’s helpful.

Based on that chart, at current juncture, ISU’s most likely path of opponents, using percentages of seeding, is:

Opening round: (7) Texas
Quarterfinal: (2) West Virginia
Semifinal: (3) Texas Tech/(6) Baylor
Championship: (1) Kansas/(8) Oklahoma State/(4) TCU/(5)Kansas State

Obviously the scenario is pending results of weekend games. And I realize it’s largely a thought-experiment to assess Iowa State advancing multiple rounds. But as the saying goes, “That’s why they play the games.”

Agree. We seem to struggle against Texas' defense (though I haven't heard anything regarding the status of Bamba). OU has no defense.
I worry more about our defense then our offense. OU leads the conference in scoring while Texas is last. I'd rather play the team that scores less and hope we have a good offensive night.

Well, since UT beat us twice, and we've won our only match up against OU, I feel like I'm on decently solid ground. With this team though, the key factor seems to be how locked in they are (and whether they stay that way) rather than our opponent.

Just to throw some stats at the UT/OU debate.

We scored 57 and 70 against UT (and the 70 was in OT). We gave up 73 and 74 (latter in OT). That's 1.49 points per minute for us, 1.73 for them. Both games were with Babb in the lineup.

We scored 88 against OU without Babb. OU is 338th in scoring defense.

Yeah Im not arguing with you, and between Baylor, OU and Texas, I dont have a strong opinion one way or the other. However, with our current situation (short bench and tired legs), Im a tad more comfortable playing a team that does not score at a high clip as opposed to a team that can score a lot and likes to play fast. However, if we are able to instill our will against OU tomorrow, I reserve the right to change my mind.

I’m really surprised we got Texas. With all they are missing I’m surprised West Virginia lost to them. I guess we should probably be happy if we stay within 20 of the Longhorns. Our team has checked out so I’m expecting very little.

When was the last time we were the last seed? I’m hoping it was atleast a McDermott year but idk what they were Fred year 1.

We can beat Texas. But we'll need the real DJ in order to do it.

I hate the Texas matchup because Lindell has played his worst basketball against them twice. I don't know if its partly due to their gameplan, or Oak Hill teammate Coleman on their team, or why it has been that way. Would be hard to stomach watching him struggle against them a third time. Gosh, with all our injuries, struggles, weaknesses, etc., ...is there anyone on this board that realistically thought it would actually matter as to who our opponent was going to be? There's been plenty of analysis as to why we've been blown out our last several games. Any of the possible matches were going to be against a team that will feel the need to get another win to secure getting in the dance. Where our guys don't have much to play for....so to speak. Having said that, I hope our guys play with pride, passion, and compete for 40 minutes regardless of how the game flows. Gotta hope that Cyclones on the front of their jersey still means a lot.
