Idaho killings

Why would they send a cleaning company in now? I would think they would just torch the place. I really can’t see anyone ever wanting to live there.

Someone will, not sure I’d want them as renters though

I think its more they are clearing out any and all evidence before releasing it back to the property owner. As in clearing the site for any possible evidence that could be there.

Then the property owner can do what he wants with it. Clean and remodel it to rerent, unlikely, destroy and rebuild, most likely.

I doubt the last part. Its not like insurance is going to cover a complete demo and rebuild for this. And a landlord would never make their money back from that.

I'd guess this gets sold at a steep discount to someone who will live there themselves that isn't bothered by the idea of living in a house where this took place.

Servpro will have it back to college rental standards in a few weeks. ;)

I'm so happy they found the suspect alive I'm always a little disappointed when the cowards kill themselves. I have to think at this point if guilty he will get the death penalty. His reddit post should argue against insanity imo

The hard part for rerenting it is that the unit is so big.

If this were just a 1 or 2br unit I could see some scummy landlord offering it up at a good rate and hoping some unaware renter from out of town rents it before finding out what happened there.

But something like this is something that a group of friends decides to rent together. They'll likely already be students and at least one would likely know the story of that place

No insanity plea in Idaho? Upheld by Supreme Court already.

Idaho has only executed three people since 1976. Nobody in the last decade. Seems pointless to put death penalty on the table and risk the case on a jury adverse to the death penalty.

I've always wondered about people who buy a house or move into a place where a crime took place. I don't know if it's required to be disclosed to a buyer, but it'd be interesting.

It depends on the state. Here in Iowa you do not have to disclose.

If the state does it the same as federal, I think the death penalty phase would be after the phase determining guilt, so you wouldn’t really have that concern.

Edit: and according to Wikipedia that’s the procedure. So if prosecutors seek the death penalty in Idaho, you first have a trial to determine guilt, and then a trial to determine whether to impose the death penalty

I would think that in a smaller town like that the place would be so notorious that it would not matter anyway. I know of a house in Iowa that a murder happened, they tried to sell it for quite a while, no one would buy it. Eventually they tore it down and sold the bare land.
