Some five and four stars are incomparable freaks of nature, but if you find the right three stars, the difference between them and the typical four/five star is readiness to see the field immediately. The vast majority of FBS recruits are three stars; I just think that we’ve focused on the right ones in Essex and Adams—guys with high potential. Stud potential. I think Gaines is a guy who’s similarly talented, just a little further along his development curve. He’s a typical four star. A stud. There’s also the fact that some lower rated guys are under-scouted, and therefore underrated. For better or worse, I trust my own eyes more than I trust a recruiting rating. It’s fun to watch Hudls.I'm certainly not doubting your assessment of 'stud' receivers. But a couple of them are 3-star rated, correct? I'm just totally curious what the heck a 5-star rated receiver would be called then. Elite stud? Stud of all studs? If a 3-star can be called a 'stud', then what incredible characteristics must seperate a 3-star from a 5-star?? Serious question.
I’m just some rando. You’re free to rate them however you’d like—call them whatever you’d like—but I like the guys we’ve targeted and I hope they all come to Ames.
