How will the players react??

I can't remember for sure but I thought Tommy Birch wrote that article. Actually getting a quote from someone seems like too much work for Randy.

In the other open thread Jeremy posted "Up until two weeks ago, the last time many players talked to Fred, he insisted he was likely to return to Ames next season. With the unconfirmed rumors of some recruits being told it was less than 50/50 he would return, some feel lied to and betrayed."

Sounds like the Matt quote was pretty accurate.

I can't speak to exactly what the players feel, but i have been a college athlete and and also a coach. I know what coaches say and what their role is in the lives of their athletes- coaches spend more time with these guys than family does. To think that they will simply "get over it" or "understand that it is a business", in my opinion, is wrong. I had friends that i counted on transfer, which affected our team. I never had a head coach leave- someone who is a father figure...but can imagine it is very difficult. These guys will have to move on, but i believe fred really screwed the pooch big time with this. again- he is the only winner, everyone else associated with this loses. I would call that the definition of SELFISH.

Let's just hope the Bulls are the biggest losers in all of this mess and that this team and those involved with them reach the pinnacle of success this upcoming season.

Well, I should apologize then for my first statement. The point I was trying to make is that a lot of people who -don't- know Fred Hoiberg act as if they do and defend him like a close friend or family member. If you actually do know Fred Hoiberg, then well...
 
Matt has more integrity than Fred. I hope that tweet was partly to say what he thinks about FH now.
 
I want to see your jersey hanging from those rafters Georges. Have a banner year next year and surpass Holberg in the all-time scores. I don't know about anybody else, but my effort is completely into supporting these amazing players and the year they could have. Something tells me people may play with a bit of a chip on their shoulder over this, and I wouldn't drop our potential, regardless of the leader.

2015-2016 is going to be exciting folks.....maybe one of the most exciting in Iowa State history, all thanks to these collective young men.
 
I just saw Naz Long walking on campus. He had on a Chicago Bulls hat. I thought that was very pretty cool to see.

anyone else worried about that particular scenario because we were not that great of a defensive team even with jamel at the end of the year so we needed to outscore people

These players will react the same way every other player reacts on every other team when coaches leave. They are kids, they are finicky, but they want to play basketball. If they can't play basketball by the new coaches rules they will have a tougher time.

I think there is enough maturity and leadership in this team to make a good transition.
 
So far everything that I've seen from the players is very positive and exactly what I'd like to see. It is obvious that Fred had a positive influence on their lives and not just calling out plays and winning some basketball games. It may have been a better year than next year, for Fred to leave, as we have such a strong senior class who will be the leaders for next year.
