Hoiberg Raise - now makes $2.6M

It would be really nice if Fred would firmly comment on the raise to something along the lines of, "I have no plans to leave ISU for the foreseeable future". Anything that would kind of put a halt on the rumors for a few more years and finally allow a lot of us to relax.

I don't think it would affect the rumors all that much. We might as well get used to it.

Very fair amount....top 10 nationally for a team that is hovering at that mark.

As long as he's young and winning at a high clip there will be rumors, especially because of the uptempo style we play.

Even Izzo and Self have NBA rumors from time to time. The only scenario it won't happen is if Fred is still coaching at ISU near 60 or if we stop winning.

In that USAToday link, I am shocked at McDermott and Few. Thought for sure they would make quite a bit more than that.

I bet Ollie's skyrockets in the next week or so.

Curious what is bonus structure is. 2nd highest paid state employee? Some solid cheddar for someone living in Gilbert, IA.

He doesn't live in Gilbert. His address is Ames and lives in a very nice development along with Pollard and Rhoads. Just happens to live within the Gilbert school district. I don't say I live in Gilbert just because my kids go there. We live in Ames.

makes more than some, but if you divide the # of games coached versus pay..........he's doing pretty well.

I would think those hours are just distributed somewhere else though. Fred has to spend time recruiting, worrying about kids making grades, etc which a pro coach doesn't.

From the USA Today link posted earlier. I think this puts him right in line with Lon Kruger at 2.2 mil or so next year. About right where he should be. Plus, looking at those NBA salaries look at the average number of years each contract has. Its only about 2-3 years at a slightly higher average than what he makes now. He's smart enough to know that 10 yrs at $2.6 mil >> 3 yrs at say $3 mil or more. If he goes to the NBA someday it will be for the challenge.

He's not going anywhere. He wants to win here. He will get 900 wins here. The NBA rumors help bring in top talent. Keep that rumor mill running, Hoitrain ain't stopping.

Fred's a competitor. Coaching in the NBA is very tempting for him, & he'll take the next step IF the timing is right. That being said, he probably won't leave without at least notching a win in Lawrence or a Final Four appearance. You can already scratch Big 12 Title off his bucket list.

Big 12 tournament title is not the same as a Big 12 title. He's not scratching anything off the list.

If Fred accomplishes everything he desires to accomplish at ISU, he should be allowed to leave freely when he wants. I think it's a sign of respect.

Well, it is a long-term contract. If there are no penalties for him choosing to leave or getting fired next year what's the point of a 10 yr contract, exactly?
