Hoiberg Raise - now makes $2.6M

YESSSS!!!!!!

Irrelevant thought: I think we should raise the buyout because if he is leaving for the NBA, the team will not be stopped or discouraged by a $1 million or $2 million buyout. Might as well grab some cash in the scenario for the next hire.

Not too many schools can say that their basketball coach get's paid more than their football coach. He certainly deserves every penny.

Great that we are positioning ourselves to keep Hoiberg. Now, where is that revenue going to come from? Next press release may be about re-seating and new pricing.

What?!! If an NBA team wants to talk to an employee of the University who is under contract, they shouldn't have to pay for the possibility of having that resource break that contract?

I'm not saying you're wrong....wait....yeah I am. You are 100% wrong. :)

If Fred accomplishes everything he desires to accomplish at ISU, he should be allowed to leave freely when he wants. I think it's a sign of respect.

Hoiberg Gets $600,000 Raise After 28-Win Season

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State University moved quickly and decisively to reward men’s basketball Coach Fred Hoiberg for leading it to one of the best seasons in school history.

Hoiberg reached an agreement with the school this week that will increase his annual compensation (effective May 1, 2014) from $1.6 million to $2.2 million annually. All other contract terms remain the same.

“We are pleased to come to terms on a revised contact with Coach Hoiberg and his agent so quickly,” Iowa State Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard said. “We hope our commitment to him will keep him at Iowa State University for the rest of his career.”

According to Winthrop Intelligence, the leading source of comparative coaching contracts, Hoiberg’s new deal will rank him near the Top 10 paid coaches nationally.

Hoiberg signed a 10-year contract with an annual average salary of $2 million in May of 2013. His revised contract will provide an average annual salary of $2.6 million plus bonuses. Hoiberg earned $150,000 in bonuses for the just-completed campaign.

The Cyclones won 28 games (the second-most in Iowa State annals), captured the Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament title and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in 2013-14. Iowa State defeated nine nationally ranked teams, won a school-record 14 games to open the season, finished 11th nationally in the final poll and produced two All-Americans, an NCAA record holder and an Academic All-American.

“We recognize the tremendous accomplishments that have become commonplace during Fred’s tenure,” Pollard said. “We play an exciting brand of basketball that has brought Hilton Magic back to life. Equally important, his players have been good students and ambassadors for the institution.”

Unless I'm mistaken that puts him barely in front of Barnes for #2 pay in Big 12? Wonder if that's how they came to the amount.

It would be really nice if Fred would firmly comment on the raise to something along the lines of, "I have no plans to leave ISU for the foreseeable future". Anything that would kind of put a halt on the rumors for a few more years and finally allow a lot of us to relax.

I love the fact that our basketball coach makes more than our football coach. It only makes sense for ISU.
