Hilton magic is dead

Yep. And in the same breath left Prohm with no post players.
He left Prohm with McKay and Niang. Yeah Fred leaving so late may have hurt a little in finding a little post depth for that year, but they were still a final 4 caliber team. The sweet 16 was nice and all, but anyone on that site could have coached that team that far. Prohm since has had a full year to get a serviceable post and has failed to do so. I get that he took a few risks and missed, but that's on him.

Just so you guys know, we're going to lose Saturday and everyone will be all 'the sky is falling'. Then we're going to win 7 in a row and everyone will be 'final four bound'.

Not sure if this is sarcastic or not. At Texas, at Tech, at WVU, at KSU, vs Baylor. I wouldn't count those as wins...this team could end up with 14 losses.

A loss Saturday is expected. The fans will have zero expectations. Short of losing by 20 I doubt there is much outrage. Can I get some odds and a wager on the 7 in a row? I will give the OP 30:1 on the that call if he puts up $50.

Wait, Prohm killed Hilton Magic but our star guards Monte and Naz go 8-27 shooting the ball?

Prohm deserves some coaching criticism but players have to make shots at some point.

Shots not falling is true...and I may have to go back and watch but it doesn't seem like there's many shots that are in rhythm or timing created by offensive flow. There were plenty of wild and off kilter shots last night. There could be a variety of reasons for that.

Hilton Magic is not dead. The crowd did it's job last night getting loud during some runs but the players need to rise to the occasion when that happens. We make a couple big buckets and get the crowd goin only to give up an easy bucket next time down the floor or throw the ball away. The crowd is not going to reward crappy defense and sloppy play by standing and getting loud. The team has to give the fans something to get loud about and they have been their own worst enemies at times this season bt not keeping runs going when the crowd gets into it.

I thought Prohm did pretty well last night with adjustments and keeping the game moving. Player rotation was weird, but so were the players themselves. Having Burton run the offense for the most part really wasn't bad, he racked up around 10 assists alone. Monte was under stiff defensive pressure most of the game, so that was a fine adjustment. I'm not sure what amount of coaching Prohm could have done that would have stopped our guys from shooting 30% or less in the second half, not to mention many of those missed shots were good looks/open shots. Coaching only goes so far; the players have to actually execute, too.

WVU cooled off a little in the second half but still shot the lights out for the most part, and was money from the FT line (and so were we). They were making their easy shots and also making many of their contested ones. Not much we can do about that if that's just how the night is going to go. Our guys needed to keep up the shooting pace from the first half, and they did not succeed.

It's amazing that the Magic only works when the team doesn't give up easy buckets and actually hits some shots in the last 10 minutes of the game.

Crazy how that works.

I honestly thought the crowd energy was lackluster to be truthful. There are a lot of critical moments where West Virginia scored the basket and the crowd just sat down and got out of it.

When did the crowd start leaving? That is a big part of what hurts Hilton Magic. Although there were plenty of people in their cars listening to the team come back and beat Oklahoma State a few years ago. Hilton Magic is greater than a few lame fans.

There's always a few idiots who leave but people started leaving with 7-8 minutes left. You could tell the game was over. By the end of the game is looked like Gallagher-Iba.

People started leaving when wvu was up 15 with 5 minutes left. There was no coming back

Final 4 caliber based on what? They lost in the first round the year before. How many teams do you consider to be final 4 caliber every year? Like 30? We were a top 15-20 team Fred's last year, and we were a top 15-20 last year, which means we should hopefully make the sweet 16 with a chance at going further, which is exactly what we did.

Stop with the ******** about the UAB game. It sucked and pissed me off but it was an upset. It happens it the tournament. 15-20 teams are Final Four caliber and 10-15 are championship caliber. I thought we should have been in that championship caliber group.

We were a final 4 caliber team based on talent, experience, and the cake walk of a path we had to make it there.
