Hilton magic is dead

Fred in Hilton:

2010-11: 6 losses
2011-12: 2 losses
2012-13: 1 loss
2013-14: 1 loss
2014-15: 1 loss

Prohm in Hilton:

2015-16: 2 losses
2016-17: 3 losses so far

Fred has great success once he got his system and players in place. Prohm did very well in my opinion his first year. Three this year sucks but some thanks can go to Fred for leaving the cupboard bare in terms of post players.

Fred also left him Monte, Naz, Burton and Matt Thomas.

Fred could have left a better situation sure but this is the most overused excuse. He left the best player in school history for one year and Monte for two years. Ideally we would have had better bigs but Fred didn't always have someone just sitting there either. 3 losses at home for the talent we have is inexcusable and we probably lose against Baylor too.

I've never been to a game in Ames. This probably won't be the year. I almost went to the Vandy game but I was afraid that I might jinx them... I guess it didn't matter.

Yep. And in the same breath left Prohm with no post players.

Can't do everything for him. He had a full 18 months to get a Juco or grad transfer. He took the risk on Malou knowing the consequences. At what point does this stop being about Fred 2019-2020? Just need to figure when CSP actually becomes responsible for this program.

Can we stop already with the "let Prohm get his guys in here" excuse? So that's the answer? Let him coach an inexperienced team with less talent and THEN he will lead us to the promise land? Give me a break. Huggins coached circles around Prohm tonight. That makes three 2nd halfs in a row that he's been out-coached. K-State, Vandy, and tonight. Not to mention his questionable rotation. It seems like every night he goes out there to coach it is completely off the cuff and it's getting really tough to watch.

Maybe CW and Blum can do another podcast about how fans shouldn't overreact to one loss or blame Prohm. I'm sorry, but they are completely on the bubble now. Is it ok to be upset? This isn't the NBA...losses do matter.

I love that zone Steve rolled out. The players really looked like they spent a lot of practice time on that.

Exactly. Fred screwed us for sure. But Prohm knew he was losing Niang, McKay and Nader after last season the day he took the job. Maybe don't spend two scholarships on risky players. One risk is enough when you absolutely need a hole filled.

I honestly thought the crowd energy was lackluster to be truthful. There are a lot of critical moments where West Virginia scored the basket and the crowd just sat down and got out of it.

Yep, Fred left him with a great game manger, two good role players, and a sometimes mismatch, all of which should play the 1-3 spots. Worse yet he left him this in June. This season was obvious then and why there was an element of Fred getting out while he could back in 2015.

Close to enough, but not quite, just as our on court results. Prohm was handed a hole for this year, and he wasn't able to step up to the challenge and pull off the key addition(s) needed last spring.

Lots of empty seats and the first double digit loss in 4 years. That was an ugly game. Should have know after banking in 4 three's. The biggest play of the game was when we were down 3 in the second half and had three attempts to tie and bricked them all. That and 5 quick touch fouls for no seaming reason.

Actually we had four empty possessions in a row, all of which came after stopping WV. I was so goddam frustrated............

And those banked-in threes, JFC..........you couldn't have written it up any crazier.

Of COURSE it's OK to be upset. You don't have to ask me.

Just don't expect me to be upset with you. I'm willing to give CSP a chance to succeed.

Because they knew what was coming next.

We'll probably finish this season without a win over a ranked team in Hilton. That's inexcusable, and it will cost us an NCAA berth, which is also inexcusable.

When the Magic was alive, we win this game.
That was kind of the whole point. It ain't there now.

Like the mediocre Baylor team we lost to Fred's last year when we had a chance to take over 1st place in the Big 12? Was it dead that night too?

We just aren't as good as we've been the last 3 years, I don't think a lack of magic has anything to do with it.

Reality check bruh. Schools drop out of the top 25 every once in awhile.
I just didn't expect this with 6 seniors. We will be ok, but I have to admit I was hoping to get the big win we needed last night. There will be plenty of other chances.

Fred planned in-bounds plays. Prohm's plan is to in-bound the ball and set up "the offense".

Fred made halftime adjustments. Prohm does not. Tonight, the team was heading out of the tunnel with 7min on the clock.

Last week, with K-State, they spent the first five minutes of the second half trying to force a 3-point attempt into Matt's hands. That WAS the offense.

It was as though he expected K-State to keep giving open looks. In that situation, you play a half-side ball set and attack the hoop in 3v3 situations. They had a guy backside babysitting Matt. With one guy out of the defensive rotation at all times, the offensive efficiency goes up. How was that not attempted/executed?

Prohm was successful at Murray b/c he had two NBA point guards spaced out nicely over his 4 years. There are currently about 30 bonafide NBA talented players in the NCAA with half of them camping out on 6 teams. If a team has one, they take over ball games (no offense needed) and will carry a mid-major to 20 wins a year.

So what I get out of this is Prohm's hands are tied with what he has, but can recognize, recruit and coach up NBA talent. Agree %100. Can't wait till next year when he has his recruits and Hoibergs headcases are gone.

You're looking forward to Thomas, Morris, and Naz leaving? I sure am not. I'm not confident at all we come close to filling their void next year. Wigginton and Lewis can't do it all.
