Heat wave

Myself and the Hybrid car syndicate will be driving round the clock for the next 3 days until this problem is resolved.

All drivers are asked to slow down, and yield to any Toyota Priuses driving in the area. Please be considerate, we are working for your improved comfort.

I do feel for those that can't get away from this stuff including poor and elderly and those affected by the derecho storm that damaged so much and knocked power out in central and eastern Iowa last Monday morning. Hopefully the cooling centers are up and running.

Spent the day floating in 70 degree water. I'm okay with the hot weather sticking around for a while. Makes having a boat more worth while.

Its upcoming as of Saturday the 16th but looks nasty. According to Accuweather 14 of the next 15 days look 93 or above with almost rain, hope they are wrong. This might be the hottest streak since 1988.
Ragbrai should prove to be absolutely brutal this year for those that do it. I was out and about on the motorcycle this afternoon. I can't imagine riding a bicycle 60-70 miles a day in this.

15 consecutive days over 100°F and counting. 93°F would be nice...

In terms of how it "feels" Iowa is actually worse than Texas for a while though. The dew point in Iowa is going to bounce around the upper 70's and into the 80's which is absurdly high. Indeed part of the reason Iowa is not dealing with highs closer to if not exceeding 100 is this moist airmass. Humid air takes more energy to heat than drier air.

In terms of overall weather this year Texas been much worse though.

I don't mind 90 degree heat.

I DO mind when the humidity is so high that my windows are fogged up and I can't use any touch screens outside. That's annoying.

At least it's good corn growing weather!

I hear that Texas is pretty dry though. I guess I'm not an expert on Texas weather but I would take 105° and dry over 93° and humid any day!

According to my weather application, its going to be Heat Index of 100-115° all week...

I looked up some stats on Iowa summers of recent times and 1983 appears to be the hottest with 1988 a very close second though 88' was more dry. No other summers have been even close to those two. If what we are getting this week keeps up through August this will be up there.

Just moved to salt lake city last month, and while 98 in the direct sun is baking, it's nowhere near as miserable as high humidity would be with it. Can even comfortably hang out in shady areas without lookign like a used mop.

No its not. This is the worst case scenario - 95+ degrees during pollination.
