Heat wave

Just moved to salt lake city last month, and while 98 in the direct sun is baking, it's nowhere near as miserable as high humidity would be with it. Can even comfortably hang out in shady areas without lookign like a used mop.

It really is nice out west even if it is hot. Since it's not so humid, it's like your sweat evaporates and you're not near as disgusting when you spend a day outside.

Exactly. When it's -10, I can keep adding layers and cranking up the heat to keep warm. When it's 100, I can only take off so much trying to cool down. Even then, it usually doesn't help.

What can I say, I'm a hot guy.

We all say this until its -10 in the middle of January. Then we all say we wish it would be 100 degrees so we could at least go on a boat or go swimming.
All I gotta say is, Fall rules.

No its not. This is the worst case scenario - 95+ degrees during pollination.

Yes, anything over 85 doesn't give us much more. Luckily, where we are, we have a bunch of moisture so we can probably handle this. The warn nights also aren't incredibly ideal.

I'm a winter guy. Always have been, always will be. I can't wait to breakout the snowboard. I break a sweat at the thought of a temp of 85 or higher. Go ahead, keep this post, and bring it back up in January when it is -10. I will say then that I prefer that January weather over what we are having now.

Same here, man.

Yikes, not even counting the humidity:

Didn't think it was supposed to be over 95.

Admittedly, I'm no agronomist. I just know that my old man gets practically giddy when it gets extremely hot and humid.

Well ya crops grow like a mofo in this weather. Grass on the other hand doesnt so much like this for too long of periods.

Such as corn

Funny - my dad, my wife, and I had an argument about this several months ago. We were watching an episode of Top Chef and I made a comment about how corn was a grass. My dad (who thinks he knows everything about everything) and my wife (who thinks she knows more about farming than me just because her grandparents were farmers more than 40 years ago) jumped on me saying that, in fact, corn was not a grass. Then I showed them this article: Poaceae - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. It shut them up pretty quickly...

Yep corn is a grass.

Put me in the group that likes cold weather. Just out of curiousity, if the temp is between 30-40, are there any other people that will wear gym shorts and scandals outside?

It has to be down in the 20s before I feel like I need to be wearing long sleeves. Single digits makes me break out the winter coat.

Yeah, they love it but during this stage of growth, more heat isn't always better. Especially the incredibly warm nights.
