I would love to see somebody that was let go elsewhere like Glen Mason. I know that really isn't that popular of a choice but I loved his offense and he'd bring back a running game. Plus Arnaud would be as good of a quarterback as he had at MU.

If you want a Glen Mason type offense without having a jerk as a coach (mason), than pick Loney. While Loney was at UM they led the big 10 in rushing.
We need to go after the best possible coach...period. All of you that are looking to "marry" your coach until "death do us part" are foolish.
Looking for the "Iowa boy" that will stay "forever" will lead only to mediocrity at best and misery at worst.
Loney would be a great hire, but I bet he is close to Mac, and wouldn't work for Pollard. IMO!
Honestly... I wouldn't mind. At least he would be loyal, and we could probably win at least one conference game per year.
I'm not sure about that. Both head coaching chances he got didnt work out well for him. He has strugged in the NFL as well. He also has been out of college FB for sometime and the way this is going down we need someone with good current ties that know where they can get players.
You are correct....having great coordinators is key. Take Stoops for example...he hired an up and comer from KY as his o-coordinator (Leach) when he started at OU. This is why I was so hopeful that Chizik would be able to do the same for us with his ties to coaching in 3 BCS conferences. We need to go after the best possible coach...period. It has really dawned on me as I have thought about this that we have not had a coach that has hired assistants that went on to bigger and better things (and hence created a "coaching tree" with some ISU roots) since the 70s when we had Majors and Bruce. Criner didn't, Walden didn't, and we had McCarney for 12 years...name some assistants under McCarney that have become hot coaching commodities?
With that in mind, who did better at ISU the Iowa boy or the "big name coach"?
Was Ferentz a big name coach? Tressel?
It would be easy to rail on ISU every day on the radio. It would probably cement a place in Hawkeye lore for me.
But I like the vast majority of the folks in Ames, and on this site. I am not going to do it.
And like many of you, this thing is baffling to me, its arguably the biggest sports story in the state of Iowa this year, one of my jobs is to focus on sports in this state, and that's what I do.
I think bringing McCarney back would be awesome. I know some will disagree with that, and I understand their rationale.
