my criteria (not worth much but hey its a message board):
Turner Gill..
1) head coaching experience CHECK
2) has turned a program around CHECK
3) big 12 / big 8 ties...enough sec and big ten crap CHECK
4) proven offensive system...we will need it in this conference CHECK
5) experience recruiting to a "tough sell" CHECK
6) honesty not sure, but I see no reason to think otherwise
7) no ties to uni CHECK

He wouldnt be an all bad hire. He is respected, he would be a name hire. He has built a program. He also has an eye for hiring quality asst coaches. He could bring someone in to be a coach in waiting.

I'll say it again, I think Alvarez or Joe Paterno are real possibilities.

:biglaugh:

I really think Gill would help prevent a mass exodus of players. Also, if the players feel as betrayed by/angry about Chizik as has been stated, it's very possible that this will make them closer with each other, less likely to the leave, and give them a real chip on their shoulders. This could work out ok, as long as we don't promote any current staff members. If Bolt or McFarland were named head coach, disaster strikes...

Whoever we hire, they need to be talked to on a regular basis by Jeff Johnson... He can make sure they stay no matter what.

I'm not sure a mass exodus would be the worst thing to happen. After all, these players have lost 10 straight games and none of them have ever participated in even one college road victory, ever.

I agree 100%. Gill has proven that he can turn a team around as a head coach and that he can get into living rooms and recruit his *** off. He can build off of the recruits that Chizik has brought to ISU.

I don't necessarily agree with this stipulation; it just limits our candidate pool. There have been many head coach successes - like Stoops, Snyder, Tedford, Mangino, Schiano - who came right from being a coordinator.

I would love Turner Gill, but I don't see him coming here. He's earned himself a better job, IMO.

He's interviewed at them and did not get them. ISU makes sense for him. One place he interviewed twice at was Nebraska, first they went for Callahan and this time it was Bo Pelini. No better place to get back at Nebraska than ISU.

I just hope Jamie is "fearless" in going after guys. After all, what the worst that can happen? Even if you offer the job to Pete Carroll, the worst that can happen is that he says "no thanks." Again, let's be fearless in this...
