He who sups with the devil should have a long spoon

Again, there is a big difference between coaches and the public. Criticism is part of the job and if you can't handle it then you shouldn't be in coaching. Similar to politicians.
Yes, but I'm just asking for fair criticism. Maybe that's too much to expect in the internet age.

I'm not even part of the pro-firing Jackson crowd, but I find it ridiculous that people are suddenly alarmed that some are calling for his job.

Somehow I thought this had been going for on years--not a sudden development.

You do know you're on a message board right? Cyclones only dual win is against Northern Colorado and haven't had impressive showings in any of the tournaments. If you don't expect to see criticism on a message board then I don't know when or where you will.
But CF posters don't make hiring or firing decisions, but we are entitled to our opinions. But I haven't seen anyone cross that line...except for maybe the author of this thread (make your own opinion on who that is)

With a fan base that has been struggling, what makes you think this helps? It is not like this is the only time this has happened. It is embarrassing and it comes to no surprise the original Facebook comments since have been removed.

And as far as Pat Downey and PD2. The way they represent themselves is their choice but they fail to understand they also are representing Iowa State University and Iowa State Wrestling. Have some respect to the University which is paying for your education. Being an alumni of the school, it is embarrassing seeing the comments made by the two and struggle to ever recall having a wrestler such as him in our program. I don't care if he ends up being a NCAA Champion, Hodge Winner, pins everyone including Dean, the way he acts is downright pathetic. This just shows how desperate our program has become to put up with someone like this - I applaud Manning for not selling out. Go ahead and "abuse" me and tell me I don't have the balls to say it to his face (cause I would get knocked out), to me its the truth and I know anyone with any integrity and respect for ISU would agree! IMO I would rather have seen Pestano competing at 184 this year.

I follow Downey on twitter and granted I don't get on daily so maybe I missed a ton of embarrassing posts but I'm pretty sure you're way off base here. From what I've seen he's confident and believes he's the best in the country. Isn't that the type of mentality we want our wrestlers to have?

No problem with someone being confident and having our guys carry that mentality with them but there is more than just running your mouth. If your a bada$$ and believe it than there isn't anything you have to say but let the performances speak for itself. Also I think he's trying to hard to seek the attention. Like I said maybe I'm not use to having someone like him in our program but it's not someone I would want to be the face of ISU. I'd rather have guys like Smith, Weatherspoon, Larson, Moreno, etc who truly represent ISU with respect on and off the mat.

Is Downey the only college athlete you follow on social media? Because he's not that far off the median.

Lately I have used social media for instant updates on wrestling however I follow most, if not all, of the cyclone wrestlers. I can't say I'm on it every day as I don't care for it. Also I don't care about the other college athletes at other schools it's those which represent ISU. Maybe I'm old school but what happened to just going about your business and keeping to yourself. If you want to participate in social media that's fine but do so with the understanding that recruits, fans, kids are following. I wish guys would see the example Kyven Gadsen has set, to me he's the perfect example of how to represent the University but than again if you knew his family you know he was brought up with the values to be successful in life not just wrestling.

At what point does KJ come to the conclusion that he is not meeting the expectations he has set for himself. On the mat and in the cage he was nearly un-stoppable! Maybe coaching college kids is not his best attribute... He has a lot to offer the sport of wrestling it just may not be as a Division 1 wrestling coach.

I personally feel like he should resign. KJ has has shown Amazing results in the sports arena as an athlete. Unfortunately not all great athlete make great coaches....

Sometimes a change is good... just because...

And who trusts Pollard not to hire the next Mark Cody as opposed to the next Kevin Dresser?

Interesting you bring up Cody. He scored a whopping 1.5 points less than KJ at the NCAAs last year and got fired for it.

He already hired a Cody. Time to improve on that.

You're seriously looking at his performance and claiming the criticism isn't "fair"? Please. Also, his record doesn't need to be misrepresented. It stands on its own.

KJ has a job in the public eye. He gets publicly praised and honored when he does well and is criticized when he does poorly. Can't have one without the other. That's part of the job and is known when he signed up for it. Your inability to comprehend this is a total WTF.

So much of this reminds of the GMac situation. Just snakebit. At some point you just need to cut ties and start over.
