Maryland not playing Duke in basketball is the biggest issue that fan base has with realignment.

Because it’s more about money. Recruiting is also impacted. A school like Iowa and ISU have trouble going to Florida and getting kids that otherwise may go to a Central Florida or something. A reason is that they won’t get to play close to home. Now, Big Ten schools can tell Maryland and Virginia kids that they’ll play close to home.
You may know the area but I have a pretty good handle on what happened with Delaney and expansion. Penn State didn’t have a natural geographic rival. They also wanted to create a footprint on the east coast. Many fans wanted something like Pittsburgh and Syracuse but the powers that be in the conference wanted the DC and NYC markets for the network. Again, it’s worked out financially so far. Every cable model is hurting for subscribers. Tha certainly isn’t unique for college football.
