Hamilton's dad on Greg

What is morally wrong about posting what he did? I would love to hear an explanation for that.

And wouldn't you stand up and say something if your son was at a program you thought he was treated bad or unfairly? I know I would.

Also, this obviously is not about just being hard on a player. He cannot connect with players. Look at someone like Frank Martin or Bob Huggins. Those guys are complete hard ***** but their players also love them and would do anything for their coaches. Our players get sick of Greg and leave.

none of this is about snowcraig, hamilton or his dad. this should all be about Greg and what he is doing to ISU basketball

All 2 of them. The rest left for playing time. And there are FAR more players on record supporting GMac than not. Can't say about the parents - but I'm firmly in the camp of "cut the cord" and little little Mary learn to fight his/her own battles.

I'm not disagreeing here. I don't see how next year is any better at this point.

This right here is the most telling sign of the trouble we are in. If CycloneErik is losing faith it must be mad. He has always been one of the most optimistic people on here.

Alot. Young people often lack the experience and tact to deal with certain information. There's a reason why you can't become president of the US until you are 35.

But then again, I don't know you from Adam. For all I know, you could be a 35-year old posing as a 16-year old.

You have to be 35 and yet there are some 16 year olds who are more mature than those much older.

After Hamilton's "i need to get closer to home" excuse, I don't take these reasons for transfer at face value anymore. And how are you getting this "supporting GMac" number? If a player doesn't say anything, he is automatically in favor of GMac? If you are CB or MG and you talk about Mac badly, you don't get drafted because you can't get along with your coach. If you are a current player, you won't say anything or you don't get more PT. And if you want to transfer, you can't say much because you are viewed as a problem for the new coach.

The only player you can say is in Mac's corner is Petey, as he clearly went back to work for him. That's IT.

I think it goes beyond "Mommy/Daddy, coach was mean to me today". All coaches are jerks to players, all coaches in their faces and yell and scream, and all coaches have moments where they are your buddy and moments where they are your worse enemy. I think, beyond being "mean", that players are leaving because they don't feel like Mac is a good enough coach to field and maintain a competitive team. You would put up with the yelling and screaming if you were winning, and I also think you would put up with the yelling and screaming if you thought that you had a team that would win the future.

Where you are getting chewed out by a coach who has no grip on his team, do you blame him for leaving? From the sounds of JH's dad's comments, Mac likes to lob the blame around, when maybe it is his own coaching style he should be looking at. It would be hard to listen to someone telling you how bad of job you are doing on the floor, when he is doing just as bad of job on the bench. This is why Frank Martin and Bob Huggins can do what they do...because their model works.

Also, I don't buy the argument "look at the players who had nice things to say". Of course they are going to say nice things. The kids that say nice things are either a) Transfers not wanting to look like spoiled prima donnas to other schools b) current players or c) alumnis who, in their job search, are probably listing Coach Mac as a reference. What would be gained about bashing him for the deficiencies that we are all beginning to see?

I think you're spot on. It makes we wonder though, how did GMac ever become a head coach if he has such poor people skills? Being a division 1 head basketball coach is largely about building relationships. No clue, but my $.02 is the pressure to perform at ISU caused him to relate to players more harshly than is in his nature. When that didn't work, he would then compensate by trying to be their friend. Before you know it, players have no clue how to relate to GMac since his standards are so inconsistent.

There is a big difference between a place like UNI and a place like ISU. Both DI but a big difference.

Pressure? I think the problem was that he had no sense of urgency early in his tenure (starting with trying to retain the players and recruits that were supposed to come back from WM's last team) because of the ridiculous length of his contract.

There's probably something there. With Huggins and Martin, they're harsh, but you know exactly what you're going to get as a player, so it's easier to deal with. It's the unpredictable personalities that are harder to deal with or figure out.

I agree with this but I would also add that it appears that guys like Huggins, Martin, Bobby Knight create a family atmosphere where they might be tough on them but they have their back at all times.

I know I am tough on my son but I always have his back no matter what...that is what family is all about...the good coaches know how to build that us v. them type of mentality.

I don't share cyismydog's opinion on our current staff, but there sure are a lot of "grown ups" acting really stupid towards him in thread. A lot of the posters giving him grief about only being 16 and being immature should really start acting like adults themselves. "Geez, I wish I could be in the good ol' boys club, blah blah blah". You sound ridiculous.

I appreciate snowcraig posting this, as it was very insightful, but the responses towards the people who still want to beleive in this staff (right or wrong) have been over the line.

Well said. CIMD doesn't deserve what he gets from people here...although I stand by my statement that I will spend all night listening to Rage Against the Machine, and I will rally against the powers that be. Know your enemy.

Agree. Said this earlier.

"enemy" is a pretty powerful term to be throwing around. Is basketball so important that it makes two ISU fans into enemies because they don't share the same opinion of the coach? That seems a little over the top.

You know, if any of the local sports "journalists" had some onions they would be asking some tough questions of all of the leaders in the Athletic Department and the MBB program. They might even want to make a call or two to some ex-players or some of the people close to the ex-players. Instead they appear to be nothing more than stenographers for the Athletic Department and MBB program.

It happens often in politics and religion. Why not sports?

If you ever needed a sign of how bad the MBB program is, this is it.

ISU MBB: turning fellow fans into enemies since 2005.
