Games Cancelled

I'm a little late to the party... or lack there of. This sucks. Finally back in Iowa with family and everything worked out to go to this game. Buy tickets from another Fanatic and this happens. Typical.

There is a lot of true stupidity in this thread for sure.

The number of Cyclone fans who think that rescheduling a Division I basketball game with less than two days notice is as simple as ordering take out is a bit depressing.
Yeah. Not sure why JP didn't just call Omaha and demand they show up Wednesday afternoon and then grab the three guys doing the Gilbert game tonight to ref it....

They are refunding tickets, so at least you got that going for you.

I dont think it would be as complicated as you think. You make it sound like it would be some daunting task. UNI moved there game up from Thursday to Wednesday with St Bonaventure. Pretty sure our athletic department could make it happen if they really wanted to.

I stand by my comment that it wouldn't be as easy you might think either. Omaha played a game last night. I'm not privy to the inside workings of their team travel logistics, but in case you are chartering a bus from Omaha to Ames, possibly taking into consideration an incoming winter storm, it might be a tall order in itself to get your team to a game that's been moved up even 12 hours in advance.

Neither you nor I really know what goes into canceling/rescheduling a game in this kind of context. I'm pretty sure with this being a "buy" game for Omaha that could have funded a quarter of their athletic department's budget that they wouldn't have agreed to cancel the game unless they had damn good reason to.

Im not upset, I'm just wondering why Drake can figure it out against a team from upstate New York but we can't figure out something against a local team?
Drake is playing an NAIA team (St. Ambose) from *Davenport*, and the Knapp Center is a small arena with a small staff on a good day. There will be hardly anybody in attendance tomorrow. Much, much easier to handle than the same switch @ Hilton.

Event staff, security, admissions, concessions, etc. All would've had zero notice essentially. It wouldn't have worked today.

Yeah realistically the best that could have happened was to turn tomorrow into a double header.

FYI -- St. Ambrose is in Davenport.

Bonaventure is flying commercial and getting in this evening anyway.

I'm not sure what the Valley is doing for refs but two guys (Dave Cusick, Iowa City and Roland Simmons, WDM) do some fill in work on weekends and would probably be available for a random weekday game.

For sure.. we dont know what conversations took place between the two teams. Maybe Omaha was unwilling to move the game up. Highly likely it could have been moved up if both schools had the desire to do so.
