It was a great pass in tight coverage under a pressure situation. Not a lot else you can ask from your QB. 3rd and 12 was not the way to start the first drive of the game, but then Montgomery had a nice run and SDSU paid the price for putting everyone in the box to stop DM. On the replay you can see the safety playing 3 feet behind the line.
Deshante Jones is fast so there's that. ISU's Oline didn't look good so that's a disadvantage no matter what.
I saw Iowa a bit. Stanley doesn't have good feet and it shows. Maybe just shaky?
Fant's a heck of a target. What's he like as a blocker? Just curious.
Iowa's Dline looked good...NIU's play calling was bad. Get a turnover deep in IU territory early, it's a good chance to go to the corner right away and jump ahead. They ran a dive instead, haha.
Didn't see 2nd half but Iowa must have figured things out.
I'm ticked off because it appears we're obviously not going to throw to the TE's again this year!! When is CMC going to learn that TE's can catch the ball too.
Also, we never substituted on the DL either. Doesn't CMC realize those guys can't go all night without getting a breather now and then?

People have been talking about Hockenson all offseason- he’s a stud.
Both of Iowa’s lines looked pretty good. Only real negatives I took away from the game are a below average performance from Stanley, and some indecision from the LBers in filling the right holes. If the LBers can get it figured out, this defense is going to be really good again.
Enyi looked like a stud yesterday. I won't be surprised to see him wreak havoc against Iowa next week.
Stanley didnt look great which means he will go off and look like John Elway just like last year...i have no doubt. Iowa is vulnerable in the middle of that defense..I was not impressed with Iowa’s interior defense at all.. Iowa doesnt really have much of a threat at WR IMO...It is all Fant and Hockenson and the run game. I’m interested to see us run the 3-3-5 defense vs Iowa this year. I see us run blitzing a fair amount..bringing 6 and dropping 5 into short zone coverage a lot.

One minor point they were missing two defensive tackles and going up against a line that returned all starters from last year.
The one big unknown for Iowa is the pass defense. At no time did NIU threaten Iowa through the air. Not a good test at all.

Yes, Hockenson was hyped though, and for good reason. Kid is an absolute stud- can’t believe he’s only the 2nd best TE in the state, but Fant is just that good.
