I think a celebrity shouldn't make you hate a name. I know girls with those names that are perfectly good people.

Most don't. Two of those three, tho...they've made a career out of besmirching their names.

We had a ton of boys' names picked out but had a really hard time finding girls' names that we liked.
So, of course we had a girl.
We went with Evelyn, which was the name of my wife's great aunt but also combined her maiden name (Evans) with a middle name that ran in her family (Lynne), and for the middle name we chose Ruth, which was my grandmother's first name. We thought we did pretty well.
Can't wait to name our boy Wolverine Megatron.

My parent's named me Rick (and not Richard) because they didn't want me to have the nickname "****". Some people may still think I'm a ****, but so it goes. I like Rick just fine, though some people assume it is Richard. There's also a pop culture reference to my full name, which is kind of fun, though it was not intended by my parents.
My name is Chris, full-name of Christopher. Pretty popular name from the 80s. Don't mind it.
The wife and I like the letter x, so we have incorporated that into the naming of our children. Alex and Jaxon. If we have a third, I have no doubt that x will be in the name.

Had a close co-worker who was a Richard. He insisted he go by "Rich" and I always thought that was wise. His wife used to say, "I could have said wealthy when I used to wish I would someday marry a guy that was rich."
I don't particularly like my name. There was a popular song with my first name that I also just hate - and fortunately it is rarely if ever played, even on the oldies stations. All through my life I was called by the whole name, but when I started working part time at Hy-Vee one of the bosses asked me if I wanted to be called Short or Long version and for no good reason I gave the shorter version. I've used the shorter version ever since, so consequently everyone who knew me growing up calls me by the full version and those later only use the abbreviated version.
I have to give my parents credit. We all (6) have names that are neither obscure nor ultra-common.
When I was younger the "Brad" was "Justin". I always liked the name, but never met a Justin that wasn't a doosh.
I later decided I like last names for first names. "Harrison" "Carlson" etc. It just seems to give the person more substance.
Overly trendy, variations of spelling, and weird names are troubling. My former step mother was "Lynda" and it was never spelled right. Didn't seem to bother her, so maybe she was just resigned to it.
Also, when you have a more unusual name it is very disconcerting to be around another person with the same name. You have almost no experience dealing with that. You end up responding inappropriately when you're not even being talked to.
Our neighbors named their first kid (boy) "Bentley".
I just think that's a butler's name - or maybe a chauffeur. "Bring the car around, Bentley." I would never have gone there.

Doesn't get a whole lot more common than Michael, but I don't mind it. My girlfriend has a very unusual name and enjoys the uniqueness of it, so she leans toward nontraditional names for potential future children.
We both kind of like Booker and Kale for boys. Specifically, Kale Orin (my middle name and great grandfathers name) and nickname him KO. She has some girl names but we aren't having those. :wink:

Honestly I want to name my first son Hillis, after my Great Grandpa whose nickname was Jack. My GF who I will marry if she ever finished PT school just wants to go with Jack, which I am ok with.
I've always liked my name. Grant Scott (first and middle). Very strong name considering my girlish figure.
I mentioned before that we could never agree on boys names. When we were due with our third, about a month before she was due we were watching the Masters. I jokingly said if Charl Schwartzel won, that would be our boy's name (first and middle). Anyone remember who won the 2011 Masters? Thankfully we had a girl.
