Former Local Personalities Today

Oh, everyone Bruce worked with compared him to Ron Burgundy, it was definitely a thing. They made a big deal about that when he retired last year. And yes, the rumors about his romantic entanglements with co-workers were true (I heard one story about his then-wife cornering a KCRG employee in her car, confronting her about her involvement with Bruce …)

And it was a huge deal when he shaved the mustache, about a year or so before he retired.

Here‘s kind of a weird deal for me - my wife and I have lived in CR since 1991, seeing Aune on the TV almost every day. All those years, paths never crossing … until 2003, when we were in St. Paul for the Simon & Garfunkel concert, and who do we run into in an antique shop on Summit Street? Bruce Aune (and whichever girlfriend he had at that time). It took a trip out of state to bump into our local news anchor out in the community.

I heard some other stuff involving a car in the KCRG parking lot but the wife wasn't there.

I used to live right by the Panera in Johnston. Sometimes I would take my laptop in there and work for a couple hours when it wasn't busy.

I used to see Megan Salois and Jeriann Ritter in there quite a bit. I assume they spend alot of time at the NWS in Johnston when they aren't on the air.

Marcus McIntosh from Kcci would come in with his kids sometimes also.

Or the Panera in Johnston is the closest Panera to where they live.

Has Paul Bermeister been mentioned? Played at Iowa, then was a broadcaster in C.R. , does stuff on NBC sports now.

I ran into Roger Summit working at the Hy-Vee garden center a few weeks back. Pretty sure he had worked for a BMW car sales (or one of those fancier cars) a while back. Still has a great voice.

Living in Oskaloosa is absolutely hard times
I was in Osky visiting a friends grave for Memorial day last week, and its not a bad town at all. Vibrate square, with most buildings open, has William Penn. college in town, only city in Iowa with two Frank Lloyd Wright designed houses in town.

You could live in a lot worse places in Iowa than Osky, but there are a lot of EIU fans in the town, so that does matter.

Here's a 'local personality' a few of you from the early 80s may recall:
A free spirit named Zevs Cosmos, who was trying to get a nudist church going in Ames...

Was listening to the Morning Rush and they were talking about Travis's days in TV broadcasting and where some of the people in the intro they played are at now. For instance one of the guys he worked with got arrested the other year for sending threatening emails to an official over COVID closings. That got me thinking, what personalities do you remember growing up or from several years ago that left the market or business in general and are either somewhere else or doing a different job?

There are plenty from channel 13 I remember watching over the years, John Bachman was obviously a staple in the market and retired several years ago but what happened to all his former co-anchors?

Really surprised when I found this one but Tiffany O'Donnell is apparently running for mayor of Cedar Rapids:

Kathy Soltero apparently went into real estate:

Kelly Eckerman was anchor in the late 80's and is appears to be working for KMBC now

Just searching YouTube for WHOTV openings brought back some memories of the old school openings they had and some of the personalities I remember growing up like Scott Pope and Laurie Grove along with Jim Zabel doing sports too. What other local media personalities do you remember and have updates on what they are doing today that might be surprising?

I had a big time crush on Kathy Saltero. I heard she was a party gal. I saw her and Jeanne Johnson at the Rolling Stones concert in Ames, and you would be hard pressed to find to better looking women there. Johnson had on a skin-tight leather pants. Yowser!

Is Dolph Pulliam still doing the announcing down at Drake? I met him once he seemed like a really nice person.

I ended up at his estate sale a number of years back. I think he was moving, not dying.

But I bought his circular saw and a C02 tank/regulator.

That's my claim to fame! :jimlad:

You must be forgetting on CF any town in Iowa south of Indianola is a ********. Anyone not living in Ames or a DSM suburb should probaly just kill themselves.
