Fennelly's Floor?

It's possible you are making a different point than I am seeing, but you can't be saying 90 wins in 4 years isn't good, right?
There shouldn't be coversation about putting a guy's name on the floor after four years, no matter how many wins he has. I get he's the local guy and all but pump the brakes a bit. Getting cranked up this high is a recipe for disappointment in the long run. There is virtually no chance that Hoiberg could ever live up to the expecations that are being placed on him at this point. In 11 years. Bill Self has won 325 games, a national title, 10 conference titles and been to two Final Fours and no one is talking about putting his name on the floor. Give it ten years and some accomplishments and then start the conversation.

The whole argument is pointless since Fred Hoiberg has coached for FOUR YEARS and won just 90 games. It's absurd to even be discussing it.

Youre right that its too soon to be discussing it, and nobody is seriously talking about doing this anytime soon.

But i think its worth noting that if it ever does happen for Hoiberg, it will be about more than his coaching tenure. He was a hometown kid, a ball boy at Hilton Coliseum growing up. He then played for Iowa State and went on to the NBA, but he has always been an ISU supporter. He then has come back, resurrected a program from near death, and if he continues on the track he has he will undeniably be the best coach ISU has ever had. If he's still here in 10 years with these results still continuing, there will be no doubt whose name belongs on that floor.

And lets stop with the comparisons to Bill Self. Lets face it, it is easier to do what self is doing at Kansas than for someone to do the same thing at Iowa State (or anywhere else aside from a couple other blue bloods). Its complete apples and oranges.

Some parts are easier; some parts are not. The expectations are crushing at a place like Kansas. Reasonable or not, Self is going to start feeling the pressure if he flames out in a few more tourneys without another Final Four appearance. Heck, UK fans wanted to fire Calipari before this last Final Four run he made.

No basketball coach at Iowa State has done enough to put their name on the court. At an absolute minimum you need to have made some final fours and maybe a national championship. Hopefully Fred will get there but that remains to be seen. I like what they did for Johnny Orr with the statue and Johnny's but really that is more for the intangible things he means to Iowa State basketball than his actual coaching accomplishments.

Bill Self has won 325 games, a national title, 10 conference titles and been to two Final Fours and no one is talking about putting his name on the floor.

Does that even separate him from Roy Williams? Of course Kansas also has James Naismith as an option. His record as a coach wasn't great but he does have some fairly unique contributions to the game.

Isn't Kansas' court already named "James Naismith Court"?

Which is probably why nobody at Kansas is talking about naming the court after Bill Self.

As far as Williams, he was at Kansas for 4 more years, won 418 games in his 15 years and went to 4 Final Fours with no national title. Naismith's name is currently on the floor. If 20 years from now Self has won multiple additional national titles, has many more Final Fours and passes Coach K on the all time win list then maybe that will be revisited. I would be fine with continuing to honor Dr. Naismith with the currently named Naismith Drive (where AFH is located) plus the new addition to AFH that is going to house the original rules of basketball written by Naismith that were purchased at auction for a ridiculous amount of money by a KU booster. But that isn't a conversation to have while he is still coaching. As should happen with Hoiberg, let's see where Self stands when he chooses to quit or move on.
