Fennelly's Floor?

What BF has done and continues to do in this community and university is way beyond what any other coaches have done, and as much as you all ***** about people not respecting or being loyal to this university, its time you respect those who have been for a long time and plan on continuing.

That doesnt mean he deserves the floor being named after him. And i say that as someone that has been to many, many wbb games over the years. Fennelly is a great coach, a great person, and a great ambassador for ISU.. but you have to do more than that to get the floor. He should be honored in some other way though whenever he decides to retire.

Im fine with Hoiberg arena and Fennelly court. Who cares what outsiders see on TV. No offense to Fred, because I love him and he's one of the best things to happen to this University, but we shouldn't and probably never will rename Hilton Coliseum. There's just some things that don't come with a price tag and should never be changed and 2 of those things are: Hilton Coliseum and Jack Trice Stadium.

Now in about 20 years after Hoiberg has retired and lead us to multiple national championships, we can name the court after him, but don't ever change Hilton.

I think some people here are too quick to pull the trigger on renaming things after people. Remember, once you name something like a court or an arena, you really can't go back and change it. So, when you name it, you better make sure it's for a damn good reason and permanent. Otherwise, just stick to statues/restaurants/roads/etc. You can't give somebody the honor of naming an object after them, and then in about 30 years when somebody does something better, give that honor to somebody else.

BF great coach. But he's the woman's basketball coach. That right there is enough to disqualify him from having the court named after him.

These kind of comments disgust me. So you are saying our women's athletes aren't as deserving, don't work as hard, don't accomplish as much as the men? Sad statement all the way around. Coach Fennelly has accomplished more than any coach at Iowa State. ANY coach. He's like the Bill Snyder of women's basketball. Personally I don't think the court should be named.

Interesting idea. Isn't the east-west road right in front of Hilton named Center St. or something like that? I feel like we could easily rename that.

Hilton Coliseum is a recognizable name. You don't just go changing something like that. That's like Hickory Park changing its name to Bob's BBQ Shack. No...just, no. Hilton Coliseum 4 life duuude.

Good of idea renaming Center Street. Who was Center anyway?

Our seats give us a good view of the home bench at the women's games and after some of the manhandling and shoving BF has done during the games makes me disagree. This last year was a lot better, I.e. Less physical, but the previous couple years, ouch. I vote no to renaming anything after him.

Really he has done more than Harold Nichols?

Can we name basketball floor after "Johnny Orr", one of the baskets named after Fennelly, and rename Hilton to Hoiberg Arena?

No, he is saying that being the women's basketball coach is enough to disqualify him from having the basketball arena named after him. That's it. Women's basketball generates revenue at exactly TWO schools in ncaa basketball. Total. As stated, unless the guy has won a ton and built Iowa State women's basketball into a national powerhouse along the lines of UConn or Tennessee then he shouldn't even be considered. Maybe if the women's team has their own arena then fine, follow up on it, but that's it. No one should even be having this conversation for another 20 years. Hoiberg has coached for 4 years. The OP was largely just getting carried away with the Hoiberg-mania sweeping over Cyclone nation.

Fennelly has done more for ISU than anybody in this thread has. I'm not saying that he'll get the floor named after him, but I'm a little ashamed of some of the people posting

Look, there isn't anything wrong with being realistic about the place that women's basketball holds in college basketball. Let's face it, Hilton Coliseum itself is older than the entire ISU women's basketball program. If ISU was required to put SOMEONE'S name on the floor right now Fennelly appears to be the most worthy honoree but ISU is not in that position. To put someone's name on a floor isn't something you do off the cuff. The whole argument is pointless since Fred Hoiberg has coached for FOUR YEARS and won just 90 games. It's absurd to even be discussing it.

It's possible you are making a different point than I am seeing, but you can't be saying 90 wins in 4 years isn't good, right?
