I missed the premier last week but luckily for me AMC does a good job of showing the episode from the previous week before they air the new episode. I DVRed the pilot and second episode and watched them last night after the trainwreck that people call the VMAs. I understand they're trying to set up the plot but I'm not very entertained so far. I'm sure it will get better.

Side note: the only way I can watch shows on AMC anymore has to be on DVR. Too many commercials that are way too long.

I really liked last night's episode. Enjoying watching the fall of society. I like the slow burn they are doing, rather than jumping straight into zombies everywhere.

Slow burn? Didn't that entire episode take place in the same day that the family ran over the drug-dealer zombie? LA is apparently falling apart within a day of things starting to roll.

The mom not telling the daughter was just idiotic. Then after everything in the school, they left without the supplies. The whole knowing there is a walker so taking off crazy running without knowing where it was so you run straight to it was bad too. But to her credit, when the kid saved her from the principal at least she didn't just stand there and scream, she helped him too. So maybe there is hope for her.

Slow burn, relatively speaking. We've had like 3 hours of Walking Dead and if I remember right, the main characters have had a close encounter with 2 zombies so far. I've loved the buildup, and been glad they didn't jump right into being zombie killing machines.

Speaking of the drug dealing zombie - he was obviously laying there dead, having been shot. All of the other zombies, thus far, have been attracted to movement and sound, and eat voraciously on whatever they've killed. Yet one apparently went and only bit the drug-dealer, rather than feasting on him entirely, who then became a zombie himself and gained an appetite for flesh.

I guess trying to make sense of something so nonsense is pretty dumb anyway.

If you die in this world, from whatever cause as long as it doesnt damage the brain, you turn. The drug dealer was shot in the torso so he died, turned, and came back. There was no other walker the came by and bit him.

I think it's made the walkers scary again and brought back the walker-tension.

TWD has gotten to the point where there are so many walkers and those guys have gotten so good at killing them that it's pretty ho-hum when there are walkers.

See a dead person walking around, smash his head in.....don't know if I would tell my kids right away either. It would be pretty hard to believe even witnessing it.

Some people seem to be watching this thinking everyone knows it zombies/walkers and should know what to do.

I think the mom should have said something when she got home from the school. At that point she had to have known that society was on the verge of collapsing and something bad is happening. You have to inform others, especially your family, of whats going on. Leaving people curious and ignorant will only kill them.

So, do we have a third type of outcome/virus?

1. get bitten, then die from infection from bite.
2. die of non virus causes i.e. trauma/ other types of natural causes, and because of exposure to zombie virus reanimate.
3. Die from exposure to the virus, not from bite but from fever, flu like symptoms spread through air/contact, giving symptoms much like from a bite but not directly being bitten. Or, do we have a second infection/plague that is killing and then the zombie virus just happens to be occurring at the same time?

first bold... how would she have known that? Who really knows that?

second... yes something bad is happening.

I think many are looking at this new series with TWD glasses. step back an know nothing about TWD, and see if this new series is enjoyable.

Edit: info button started off describing this as " a highly dysfunctional family....."

Huh? Where'd this come from? I haven't seen any theory like this one yet.

For #3... im not sure that is occurring. Have we seen anyone with flu like symptoms? We heard of a lot of people missing from class, but i think a lot of that was people reacting to the video and pulling their kids from school.

At the very beginning of the first episode, it was casually mentioned about the flu going around, and how many people had it. I am assuming at this point very little about the zombie effect were know to the general public. I just assume that they are driving at people missing school because they were genuinely feeling ill. I figure if it is implied people were starting to hide out fear of the outbreak there would be a hint to this n some way. Perhaps it has been there but I haven't picked it up.

A flu outbreak would account for people dying, which would then account for people turning into the zombies, but wouldn't have to mean that there was a zombie virus.

The neighbor that was packing up his car had flu-like symptoms. And then he went and attacked the neighbors with the bounce house at the end of the episode.

Edit: Poorly worded. He didn't use the bounce house to attack the neighbors. Those neighbors who had the bounce house were attacked by the guy who exhibited flu-like symptoms when packing his car. But how funny would that be to see someone use a bounce-house to attack somebody?

From all of the info she gathered from Tobias, the vids of people getting shot and not dying, her son's friend who they just demolished but he didn't die and him trying to bite her, the events that took place at the school and having to kill some guy with a fire extenguisher, seeing some of her neighbors packing up and getting out of dodge, talking to her husband on the phone about how the freeways are jammed, power is going out, cell phones jamming, and now the neighbor trying to eat another neighbor.

I'm going to assume she still doesn't know about the riots in downtown LA yet.

If I witness all of that, I am going to assume society is hitting the fan.
