Fat Stanley without Doyle

The biggest gift of that game was the one Brock let slip from his grasp as ISU was about to put the game in a stranglehold. Its a clear flaw that keeps rearing its head for Brock in big games. If he can stop turning it over, he might have a football career after school like Nate will.
The kid is given more freedom to let it rip than the 3 year starter Stanley ever was. Just goes to show which QB was trusted more by their coach. Besides, how many drives did Stanley kill last year by taking a massive sack? This was Purdy's like 9th or 10th game btw, young QB's are gonna make mistakes

Stanley is fortunate his career began when Iowa State had hit rock bottom and is getting out while they're finding their stride. We all know the Cyclones should've won that game last fall.

Nate’s career as a starting QB took place during the 2nd best 3 year stretch in ISU history. Nate’s career accomplishments are better than any QB ISU has ever had and its not close.

More passing yards than anyone in ISU history except Bret Meyer who played one more season than Nate

18 more TD passes than any QB in ISU history

26 TD passes x2 seasons - would be the 2nd and 3rd best seasons by a QB in ISU history and only 1 short of the best season by Brock Purdy

3 bowl wins vs 4 all time bowl wins for ISU

Won 10 games in a season - more wins in a season than any QB or team in ISU history

Won 9 games in a season - matches ISU best season in history

Won 8 games in a season to boot, which ISU has done only 9 times ever, and two of those seasons took place in the early 1900’s when most of those wins came against future D2 and D3 teams like Grinnell, Coe, South Dakota, and Drake, among others

27 wins in 3 years exceeds any 3 year stretch by any QB or teams in ISU history

And ISU has exactly 0 games like what Stanley did against Ohio State. You’ve had tight upsets against top 5/6 teams, sure. But exactly none like 55-24 against #6 Ohio St.

I rest my case.

Wins? Last I checked, football was a team sport. Iowa has won a lot of games with average QB's in the past because they usually have a good defense.

Stanley wouldn't even be a top 5 QB at ISU, no matter what the stats say. He never had a season where he completed over 60% of his passes. He can't hit a deep ball to save his life. And he will probably never play in an NFL regular season game, because he is just not that good. So put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Purdy as a Sophomore career stats
Passing: 6232 yrds passing 43 TDs 65.9% completion and 9.2 yrds per attempt.
Rushing: 193 attempts for 557 yrds and 13 TDs 2.9 yrds average.

Stanley 4 year stats
Passing: 8297 yrds passing 68 TDs 58.3 % completion and 7.5yrds per attempt.
Rushing: 161 attempts for -104 yrds and 2 TDs -0.7 yrds average.

Do you know how many records Brock Purdy would hold at Iowa? And he did it vs the 5th hardest schedule in the entire country

Stanley's career started in 2016, Iowa state won 3 games that year. Things have gotten better since then, yes, but let's not get carried away here, Campbell had to bring them a long way back from the bottom and they haven't peaked yet. They were not supposed to be good in 2017, but between Kempt and Campbell's genius they were able to salvage a decent season. The games in 2018 and 19 were competitive, Stanley just had a slightly better team around him in 18 and got lucky in 19, as rational fans from both sides know and agree upon. Don't get hung up on Stanley's personal accomplishments, Brock is going to lay waste to just about every single one of his statistical categories by the end of year 2.5.

Purdy shattered every single season Iowa QB record as a true sophomore

Don't you know, we Iowa State fans are completely indifferent to the Iowa game. Don't care at all. Actually prefer to lose to show you how little we care. It barely ranks above the Spring Game, and we don't even have one of those any more.

Agreed. We'd be much better getting it off our schedule since it's a lose/lose situation for us

Gotta give the boys credit, they've done a wonderful job showing how little we care about this game the last several years. It would appear this mindset has also pervaded the basketball team.

It's obvious Campbell cares more about conference games than a non conference game vs a Big Ten West opponent. It's refreshing honestly

You realize how utterly absurd this is to say, right? Campbell is one of the most intensely competitive people there is. The notion he "cares more" about one game than the other is nonsense. He cares about every game. He wants to win every game.

How do you think this works? Does he come into the locker room before each game and inform the team of the effort level he wants them to put forth. "Listen fellas, I don't want to see anyone operating above like a 7 today. Too much intensity and you'll be standing by me."

It's football. You have 12 games. You want to win all of them equally.

It's no secret he tries to get his team to peak for conference games. His goal is to win a Big 12 championship. Of course he wants to win every game but he's not going to go the Iowa route and treat a non conference game like a Super Bowl.....

Do you think Campbell would rather beat Iowa than Oklahoma? The answer is no. Iowa would rather beat Iowa State than anyone else and that's proven. That's the difference

He wants to win all, yes. He wants to be in the big 12 championship and win the conference title. What he does is in the off-season, he rewatches film and scouts the conference teams more than the non-con. He finds the best players and sets his offense and defense to best collect wins against the style that the big 12 plays. You put just a little more into those efforts. May explain why we have hung with Oklahoma for the last three years when in the past we would just get destroyed.

Too many people want to focus on game by game, that is not what is being said. It is saying our formations, offense, defense, recruiting, off-season work is set to win a big 12 conference; not to pull a Mac and focus on the one game. Mac gained that from Fry, Mac said that every coaches desk had a plaque that said beat state, so they could see it day in and day out that that was key number one. Our coaches don't have that (last I knew or saw).

Bingo! It's just two different ways to go about it when comparing Campbell to Ferentz

...and you think Kirk is doing the inverse of this? He's recruiting and scheming just to beat Iowa State? That's idiotic.

It matters to Campbell. It matters to Kirk. It matters to Clonefan32. It matters to Twins, who is the most Iowa obsessed Iowa State fan there is.

"Treat it like the Super Bowl"...what does that even mean? It's an idiotic statement to even make.

They watch film over Iowa State in the off-season. They treat it bigger than any other game on their schedule. Kirk even said it was bigger to beat Iowa State than Ohio State.

You're wrong on this one

Nope, I'm not. This obsession by you is an embarrassing look for the rest of us. Very "little brother".
