Apples to Oranges. KSU had big time JUCO recruits come in and make a big impact. They also have a coach with over 150 wins and a career win % around 65%. Completely different IMO. They also are coming off back to back bowls - after having 6 straight losing seasons. Hardly the model of consistency.
I'm not saying that we'll be able to make a push for top 3 in the Big 12 every season, but we can do it on occasion with the talent level we have.
What we can realistically do at ISU is have regular 6+ win seasons under a consistant coaching staff, have a few 8+ win seasons, build up respect as a team that isn't just a bottom feeder, and start out recruiting teams in the midwest. We will never out recruit Texas teams. Even BU and TT will always get the better recruits just because of location. We can beat out KU, KSU, Minn, NW, UI etc though. It'll just take time. With that small bump in talent we could have an occasional title shot down the line.
