Ending Iowa's Dominance

You think Iowa's success over the last 40 years is simply tied to starting to play and beat ISU?

Yes I do because that was the catalyst for hiring raisin face and the rest is history....go back and read the locust street liar for all the details....the 31-0 loss to ISU was the turning point for TOE

I think many people are forgetting that both teams are replacing a ton of starters on the OL from last year’s team.

ISU had to replace excellent OL players in Campos and Riviera. Campos is currently with the Cowboys. Mueller & Foster are only sophomores, they’ll get better. Newell and Downing are freshmen. I assume the line will be pretty salty in a couple years.

Iowa replaced 4 starters on the OL from last year’s game.
Myers
Boettger (Chiefs)
Daniels (Bears)
Welsh

I don’t think either team’s struggles on OL is much of a surprise.

If Foster continues to start for them that OL is in trouble. I know he was going against a future top-10 draft pick at DE, but the kid got absolutely abused.

I said the same thing in the second quarter when it was obvious we had no interest in even being there. Put the young guys in and save anything you can on film for the OU game
I agree. Play some of the guys that needed some experience and sit the rest so we don't get any injuries for our important games.

The series needs to be dropped in football. Look at what happened this year: we lose our starting QB, have to play a defensive strategy we will never use again the rest of the season and face a pissed off team a week before our real season begins. Brutal

You're basically trying to gear opponents' fans up from a previous week's game, and it's weird.

Any player can get hurt at any time no matter the opponent--I don't know why that's even a talking point. Kempt essentially put himself in danger of getting hurt by not flipping the ball out to DM who was open and had lots of room to run. There were several other plays that were similar which was odd considering how good he was at a quick release last year.

A team can learn way more from a loss than a win especially with so many missed opportunities so it's time to move forward.

Is someone going to start the OU look alike thread because that would be more fun?

He's young, he will improve a lot. Next year he will seem like a totally different player. I wish CMC would have left a back in to help block on obvious passing situations when they brought that kid in. Tough assignment for a young player playing the first game of the year.

I'm guessing the constant losses to OSU/Michigan/Minnesota/Purdue etc were more of a factor.

Hes a 3rd year player and is still displaying the exact reasons why Iowa didnt offer, hes soft and has bad footwork. If he is consistently in your OL rotation the next 2.75 seasons, that would not be a good thing.

Got some FR in the two deep but I don't know much about them, you'd think it would be a good sign for the future.

Oline seems like it's light years behind every other position group--I feel like the rest of the team can hang with most other teams out there.

You play to win. It was a 6-3 game in the 4th quarter

We only play 12-games a regular season, for Gawd sake I hope our coach/team treats every game like it's a "Super Bowl". After losing 4-in -a -row, I would hope the coaches put *a little* more emphasis on beating Iowa. I would be really pizzed off - to the point of withholding support- if they didn't pull out all stops and strategies to win the game.

What you need to do Matty is go to the record books and see how many games the choke eyes won from 1969 thru 1978 and then from 1979 thru 1989......You will see a what I am talking about my friend.....that record sez it all and the difference of course was the ISU game...and of course fear of losing their fanbase...

What Iowa was afraid of happening to them aka losing their fanbase, actually happened to ISU....and its not been pretty.......
