Eli king?

We have a lot of new players, but most of them are transfers. Couple that with the returning players, and we have a lot of experience (if not from playing together). Can't read much into a young guy getting light minutes over two games.
It just seemed he was the most college-ready of the incoming freshmen. I’m not too worried about him yet.

So give him virtually no time at all in a game like this? That should help his development.

If we’re all being honest…. it’s basically a sign that they missed on him and don’t care if he leaves. That’s what it has meant in the past.
16 years later and clonedude is still doing clonedude things. Gotta admire the dedication to being an insufferablely negative poster

I'm having a great time with this, but it's smat to trust TJ's recruiting enough that we can assume this young man isn't a bust 2 games in. He's going to be fine.
Even if he is a bust he is like the 12th option on this team this year so who cares. Not everyone can be a hit.

I had to Google smat, even threw it in urban dictionary, I’m going to stay quiet now because I’m not sure which definition of smat is correct.

Does anyone remember how much Naz played as a true freshman?
Yeah, he sucked. Nothing but respect for what he turned into and he was an amazing contributor to the team by his senior year. But I cringed every time he came into the game as a freshman.

I will not look up smat in Urban Dictionary

Dam. I just couldn't help myself.

Unless he’s injured, which he shouldn’t play at all if he is, then there’s no reason to not get him more minutes in a game like this.

What if Linsey is injured?
Is lipsey injured? He look like he hyper extended his leg or something right before that last timeout

Wasn't King kind of injured prior to the start of the season. Maybe he got behind. Also, he has a lot of experience guys ahead of him and he is a True Freshman. Not really surprised he hasn't played much. I think he can be a good one down the line though.

I'm not concerned about Eli. He had a little further to go than Lipsey and Watson, played in a smaller class in MN if I recall correctly. 2A out of 4A. Tamin at least played at the highest level in the state of Iowa, and was Mr. Basketball in the state, winning a championship. Watson played at Totino-Grace, one class above Eli.

We are undermanned at guard this year. If Eli can get up to speed, he'll see minutes.

Also Tamin was a borderline 5 star recruit prior to a serious injury issue. Should players get downgraded for injuries based on internet recruiting analysts stellar track record of forecasting careers?

I think Eli's lack of playing time is probably more a byproduct of having so many new faces this year. Even up 20+ points, there is value in having our core 8 out there to gain familiarity and establish roles. In prior years with a more proven team, you'd probably see the 9-12 players get some run. But here there's just too much value to the top guys being on the floor together before we start playing tougher opponents.

I was thinking the same thing. This isn't like "back in the day" when Monté and Georges and that crew had played with each other for 2-3 years and didn't need to learn to play together. Under those circumstances, giving the new faces and the freshman as much run as you can against live ammunition makes sense. But very few of the current roster has played together more than a year (really only Holmes and Osunniyi and that wasn't in Ames) and there's only five returners (Kalscheur, Kunc, Grill, Jones, and Tre King once he is eligible again but he's never played a live game for Iowa State). Lots of new pieces to integrate in a short time.

Some experience for Eli King against bad teams isn't a negative, but I'm not sure it is as much of a positive for the program as getting the top 8-9 guys experience together and figuring out the rotation.

Slow the **** down guys.

Eli is going to be good but like a lot of true freshmen, he’s going to take a year or so to develop into a Big 12 player. Since he won’t be a key contributor this year, it’s more important to get the first 9 in the rotation to gel, including our other freshmen that will be relied on.

Eli is doing well in practice and will be good, even without many minutes this year as he develops through training, practice against Big 12 bodies, etc.
Guys??? It's one ******* dumbass.
