I guess I'm surprised by this but assume his contract is too big to do anything this season?
They must be in some serious financial trouble. Or have figured out that firing coaches every 2-3 years in unsustainable.

Or he's convinced them that hey 'NEXT year is THE year...promise!'They must be in some serious financial trouble. Or have figured out that firing coaches every 2-3 years in unsustainable.
This is Nebraska saving millions with the renegotiated contract and buyout and Fred getting one more year to try and save his head coaching career/not wanting to go out at such a low point.
It can actually be summed up in even less characters.Buyout is just too much.

I don't know if Kn has big donors that care about BB but this seems like Trevor is testing the waters to see if anyone is willing to write a check.
This article says the buyout was a factorMaybe it's a two-fold situation where they can't afford to do anything with Fred but have some saving grace in the wings but won't be for another year? Dunno. Just trying to make it make sense. I thought he was toast.

Hmmm, not many favorable responses in the responses. LOL Restructured his contract so they can get to a lower buyout # is my guess.
Well if they made Fred take his restructured salary and uses it for NIL money he might be able to buy a team. Just a thought.I’m sure Matt A has it all figured out. Next year it’s all coming together.
Serious questions here………how could a negotiation like this go down?
Why would Fred agree to such an agreement? Maybe said another way… “Yeah we suck, where’s my $18MM?”
I guess, to me, he has the leverage. Why would you give it up? Yeah he could never coach again. Got it. With his money, coaching basketball really isn’t necessary anymore, is it?
My guess is Fred has enough money already.
So the competitor in him is willing to take less money for the chance to stay on. He could also be willing to take a lower buyout because if he can't win next year, he is ready to move on. Winning 1 game in Big10 play can't be enjoyable.
Pat Knight was/is an NBA Scout for the Pacers, so old bad coaches can always find a landing spot in basketball. Or he can become an announcer- Dickie V never lost a game at ESPN.
They have that Scott Frost buyout upcoming too. Have to budget for both at the same time. Poor Bugeaters
