Down goes Freddy

Buyout is just too much.
It can actually be summed up in even less characters.

I don't know if Kn has big donors that care about BB but this seems like Trevor is testing the waters to see if anyone is willing to write a check.

I’m guessing he already did test it, and couldn’t come up with the required amount, but he has enough if necessary for next year with the restructuring.

Maybe it's a two-fold situation where they can't afford to do anything with Fred but have some saving grace in the wings but won't be for another year? Dunno. Just trying to make it make sense. I thought he was toast.
This article says the buyout was a factor

I guess I'm surprised by this but assume his contract is too big to do anything this season?

Hmmm, not many favorable responses in the responses. LOL Restructured his contract so they can get to a lower buyout # is my guess.

Nebraska really held his feet to the fire. A tiny pay cut and buyout reduced to 11 million. They’ll never be able to fire him.

Not by much. Buyout goes from 18 million to 11 million. Pretty sure after next year the buyout was going to go to 13 million any way.

I’m sure Matt A has it all figured out. Next year it’s all coming together.
Well if they made Fred take his restructured salary and uses it for NIL money he might be able to buy a team. Just a thought.

Serious questions here………how could a negotiation like this go down?

Why would Fred agree to such an agreement? Maybe said another way… “Yeah we suck, where’s my $18MM?”

I guess, to me, he has the leverage. Why would you give it up? Yeah he could never coach again. Got it. With his money, coaching basketball really isn’t necessary anymore, is it?

I think Trev knows how bad of spot the program is in. Instead of paying the expensive buyout, may as well let him stay and try to figure it out. Fred hasn't built any continuity - keeps trying to flip the roster and keeps failing.

My guess is Fred has enough money already.

So the competitor in him is willing to take less money for the chance to stay on. He could also be willing to take a lower buyout because if he can't win next year, he is ready to move on. Winning 1 game in Big10 play can't be enjoyable.

Pat Knight was/is an NBA Scout for the Pacers, so old bad coaches can always find a landing spot in basketball. Or he can become an announcer- Dickie V never lost a game at ESPN.

If you look at the details he’s not taking very much less money at all.

They have that Scott Frost buyout upcoming too. Have to budget for both at the same time. Poor Bugeaters

Fans can complain about their coaches but their Athletic Department has made the most boneheaded contract extensions in sports. Giving BOTH Frost and Hoiberg contract extensions after historically bad seasons is beyond dumb. They deserve paying these massively stupid buyouts.
