Down goes Freddy

He could still go to an Evansville or Indiana State type program.

He could, but I highly doubt his ego would allow that. As someone else said, he could be a non-recruiting assistant at a high major and that’s probably it

LOL huskerboard only has 3 pages of posting for NU game against Rutgers today. We are up to 4 just talking about another loss for Hoiberg. No doubt which fan base cares more about basketball.

Even as poor as last yr was I don't think we had only a 3 page game thread.

Last year i think we just combined everything into a single game thread after Rulzz got hospitalized from covid

He was definitely on track to build a legacy at ISU that no one would ever be able to match had he stayed and coached at team to a Final 4 or better. Looking back he played with fire with some transfers that came out on the positive and eventually some of those probably would come back to bite him. I have no doubt that his assistants brought in some diamonds in the rough that he benefited from. At the time he left it was just bad timing on his part because he had a team built to win. Prohm got screwed after his first year because there was no HS signings for him to take on so when our best players graduated we had nothing in tank to carry over. Prohm did bring in some good recruits after that but was a victim of his own recruiting as they left for the NBA after 1 or 2 years.

ISU is a tough job. I was skeptical when we hired TJ as I thought we could cast a wider net in the coaching ranks and hire a proven coach with a P5 resume. I am all in after seeing how TJ has taken this group of players and turned them into a team any Cyclone fan would be proud of.

It’s amazing how hiring a guy who’s had the chance to learn from 4 D1 head coaches who have taken teams to the Sweet 16, has 5 years of head-coaching experience including 2 NCAA tourneys, and wants to be here more than anywhere else is paying off. TJ had the chance to grow, network, and experiment (aka, make mistakes) before getting the keys to Hilton and we now have someone who’s been a part of success at Iowa State that isn’t ever going to leave unless he gets fired. I enjoy rooting for a guy like that and it appears our roster is responding to his passion.

Don’t forget he had no coaching experience whatsoever when we hired him.

He succeeded at ISU partly because he knew the place so well and was so invested, but the experience gap caught up to him when he left.

Nebraska needs a coach like TJ who can recruit and will grind and work hard. Fred doesn’t really fit that bill.

Nebraska blew the hire when they hired Fred. They needed a coach that could recruit, not a coach that admits to hating recruiting.

Please keep this quiet. We don’t want Knowledge U sniffing around another ISU employee!!
Ha

No one else would have hired him. Remember we found out he had interviewed with at least 2 other franchises.

I also believe if he would have thought he would have gotten the TWolves job, he’d have waited. But I think flip’s passing changed that

I don't remember Hoiberg being interviewed by at least two other franchises? Which ones?
