I was wondering how many people have a second favorite team after Iowa State. I have had a couple over the years, Purdue with Brees and West Virginia when Pat White was a Fresh/Soph. But never a rock solid #2 for college.

Since I moved to the Twin Cities I am finding that I have picked up the Vikings and Twins as solid #2 teams in their respective sport.

So the question, is there a second team that you cheer for during the entire season? If so who? Also is it sport specific, only cheer for that team in football or basketball.
Any team playing the Hoks.

ISU #1

I do keep tabs on the Big 4, more so during basketball season then football.

Big 4 = Niagara Univ, St Bona, Univ of Buffalo, Buffalo State (less so because Div III)

Lived in Birmingham for 3 years and befriended a lot of Crimson Tide fans while I was there. Almost impossible to see any ISU games while I was down there, so I spent a lot of Saturdays watching UA games.

#1. ISU
#2. Va. Tech. I fell in love with watching "Beamer Ball" on Thursday nights the past 3 0r 4 years.
#3. Central College. Went there for a year and played, great football program.

I grew up with the Hawks in #2, and really a co #1. I cheered hard for them 363 days a year, only rooting against them when they played ISU. That all changed when I got outside of my hometown area and got to see the arrogance of their fanbase. It's one thing for their fans to put down my TEAM, but it's another for them to put down my UNIVERSITY.

Over the years, I've gotten behind quite a few other programs from time to time, but I've never really been a fan of any of them. If they're on, I'll watch, but I have no emotional investment, and would never claim them as a #2 team or buy any gear from there. They would be as follows:

-West Virginia (loved White/Slaton, and somehow feel like I can relate to them. Don't ask why).

-Boise State (love the town, and the area. Thought their fans were good people in '02).

-Cincinnati (Just a fun team to watch the past few years).

-Oregon State (feel like we have a lot in common).

-Oregon (see Cincy, plus I always played as them in NCAA 98).

-Oklahoma State (is there another school more like ISU out there?)

-A&M (best fans I've ever come across. Hard to root against the Aggies after meeting their fans).

After having some friends attend there and attending several football games I will have to say that Oklahoma State is my 2nd favorite team. I cheer for them as long as they aren't playing the Cyclones.

I agree I have always rooted for Oklahoma State, there fans are allot like ours, down to earth.

UNI and UMKC. I also follow two of the schools that I have paid plenty of tuition (my kids'):

Southwest Baptist University and Missouri State.

1. Iowa State

Big Gap

2. Exciting Teams
2009-Oregon/Nebraska (Didn't like Nebby, but LOVED watching Suh dominate)
2008-Texas Tech
2005-Texas

(There are a lot of teams around and about that I have forgotton about)

Cyclones will always be my #1, but since I have been sending checks regularly to University of Illinois (Champaign/Urbana) the last several years (2 children there now and one more starting next year), they have to be my #2. Excellent academic institution. My kids love it there. Any they do a nice job at the football games (although the BTN start times of 11:00AM sucks).

#1 KSU
#2 ISU--with 2 children as grads what more do I need to say?
#2A UNI--just because they make no excuses
#3 Wyoming--the ultimate small population state, small budget underdog
#4 Georgia Tech--they run the bone
#5 Air Force--Falcons compete well regardless of the odds

Number 1 - University of Tennessee (graduated from there)

Number 2 - ISU (grew up in iowa)

Number 3 - Oklahoma State U (currently employed there)

Talk about a busy day of drinking and rooting on teams come Saturday!
