I will get killed for this but it's Michigan. They were actually the first college team I was a fan of. My first real sports memory was Woodson winning the Heisman. I didn't come a from a family that cared about sports so I was never really in the game at a young age. Once I got to high school I switched over to ISU.

My #2 is Iowa......

Grew up a Clone and Hawk fan.....
I never stopped cheering for them (Iowa) even when I went to ISU (except when they play us). I get annoyed by a portion of their annoying fan base, but we have some of our own. Plus, my intense hatred for all things Nebraska makes me like Iowa even a little bit more now..........

You pretty much just quoted my diary here....

My #2 would be Alabama. My cousin attended law school there so I visited the campus and really liked it. Also, my favorite NFL player (Derrick Thomas) played there as well.

I was wondering how many people have a second favorite team after Iowa State. I have had a couple over the years, Purdue with Brees and West Virginia when Pat White was a Fresh/Soph. But never a rock solid #2 for college.

Since I moved to the Twin Cities I am finding that I have picked up the Vikings and Twins as solid #2 teams in their respective sport.

So the question, is there a second team that you cheer for during the entire season? If so who? Also is it sport specific, only cheer for that team in football or basketball.

Auburn. I have a son who graduated there. As a result, I have seen some games in Jordan - Hare, and there is nothing like it. 2 Alabama games and a Syracuse game that went to 3 overtimes. When they fly the eagle it gives you chills. The tiger walk is intense. Awesome venue.

Tie. Number 2 and in decline is Nebraska. Born and raised a Cornhusker fan, still go to games with my mom and dad. Thier 94 NC was my senior year in high school. The next year I went to ISU. The addtional NCs didn't mean as much and my interest has been slowly but steadily decreasing since them. I will miss a couple of things with Nebraska to the Big 10--1. me and my dad traveling to the other guys stadium every year to take in the game. 2. We have a standing bet that whoever's team wins in FB the previous year gets the honor of flying their flag at the lake on the 4th. I proudly unfurled our banner this past weekend. Here's hoping that our guys do it right this year as well.

Number 2 and on the rise: Arkansas. My grandma lives in NW Arkansas and is very proud and knowlegeable about the Razorbacks and it has started to rub off on me.

I have 3 teams that I root for:
1) Iowa State
2) Who ever is playing Iowa
3) Who ever is playing Nebraska

1. Iowa State
2. Iowa
3. UNI

...when you live in Texas but grew up in Iowa, you find yourself cheering for anything and everything Iowa... ...plus I'm insulated by several states in having to deal with Iowa fans on a regular basis...

Notre Dame. My family is from Indiana and my dad's side is all Irish-Catholic. Both of my parents went to Indiana University, so I've always been interested in their basketball team, too.

Football:

1. Iowa State
2. Oregon State (distant second)
3. Northern Iowa
4. Iowa (I know, I know...but I grew up cheering for both ISU and UI)
5. (not D1, but still college...) Northwest Missouri State

Basketball:

1. Iowa State
2. Creighton (Very close second. I grew up in the Omaha area during the Altman glory days, impossible not to be a fan)
3. Northern Iowa
4. Iowa
5. Drake

I follow all of them pretty closely. And Texas Tech used to be my #2 in football, until they fired Leach...

Drake is my other school. I have two graduate degrees from there. I'm also a DePaul fan as my wife has a graduate degree from there and we use to live in the campus area. It was and continues to be fun to take in some of their games. I'd love nothing more than an arena closer to their campus even similar to what Drake built with the Knapp Center. That all being said, ISU is was my first and favorite by far!!!

I went to school at Creighton - always been a 2nd for me - I'm really uncertain now. My next in line are OU and UT unless a win for them hurts us. Maybe it's the winning - I'm a conference homer and want all 10 of us to have success outside the conference.

My #2A is Iowa State. I'm also glad to see I'm not the only one whose #2(b) is Michigan. I got accepted into graduate school there, but ended up staying at Iowa.
