Discipline and focus

Wow, I don't think anyone has a problem with you stating we have discipline issues that need some correcting. We have a problem with you bringing Chizik up all the time. Simple as that!
This is legend but really not true, if you search, I have said nothing since the day of the National Championship. But Nobody Expects The Spanish Inquisition

How many times have we punted in the first quarter this year? Tom Herman can't catch the snap. He can't make the handoff clean. He can't hold on to the kickoff. He can't hold onto the ball for Shontrelle and he can't make Steele throw it to the open guy instead of the covered guy. In each and every interception, someone else was open. He can't make the plays, he can only put the guys in position. He has done that. He did that against Iowa only to have SHontrelle fumble and Jantz muff a snap. I think he did it last week though no one wanted to hold on to the football. At some point the players have to have some accountability this year. That may not be true in years past, but it is this year. Lack of proper decisions and ball security are the issues, not which plays are called.

Just a note on penalties, at the end of the first quarter last Saturday both teams had 2 penalties. We had a horse-collar (which saved a TD) and a block in the back on a kick return. It was actually the second quarter where the penalties started to kill us.

So, to me, that doesn't really jive with the theory that the team is coming out of the locker room too emotional and playing undisciplined from the opening kick.

Obviously first quarter TO's are another story.

I based the analysis on points because that's what wins and loses games.

I guess I got the impression you were upset about TO's and penalties early in the game. And that you thought that the TO's and penalties were due to the emotional nature of CPR. If you were only speaking of TO's and not penalties, then I apologize for misinterpreting your comments.

When I originally posted here, I had no problem with either side of this argument. Plenty of overreaction after the loss, but that's to be expected with expectations as high as they were. Still, there were good points made on several fronts. I do, however, have a problem with your last couple of posts.
In one, you claim you have said nothing about the former coach everyone associates you with. I this vey thread, you were the one who brought him up. Now, in the post quoted above, you refute an argument by saying that you only based your analysis on points, ecause that's what wins and loses games. This whole thread you've been pointing to the high penalties as an issue, but when someone brings up a point about penalties which may be contradictory to your belief, you refute it by claiming it's not part of your analysis? If we're only going to analyze points, we've outscored our opponents in 75% of games and this agument is done.

I was a student at ISU from 98-02. Do you all remember the stat that was out there that Ennis and the other running backs didn't fumble for like 3-4 years? I remember the talking heads would always talk about that during games. I wonder how much of that was coaching vs the rb's desire to hold onto the ball. I remember watching and just knowing we wouldn't fumble.

I want that feeling back about silly penalties and fumbles. :spinny:

No doubt players have to make good decisions. On the other hand, UT had been blitzing heavily for the prior three games, and ISU had nothing planned to counteract it, despite having an extra week to prepare. That's on the coaches. Perhaps if Jantz wasn't running for his life, he could have made better decisions.

Our offensive starts each game (is the 3rd season time enough to jerk a knee?):

So far this year: Zero TDs scored on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd series. In fact, no TDs in the 1st quarter.

2010: Zero points (of any kind) scored on our 1st or 2nd series of the ENTIRE season. 4 TDs scored in the first quarter the ENTIRE season: 1 NIU, 2 Utah and 1 TX. The 2 Utah could be credited to the D for forcing very short fields with nice turnovers, our 4 other 1st Qrt Utah series ended in punts. We had 1 1st Qrt field goal, UNI.

2009: Only scored TDs on our 1st series vs NDSU and KU (missed extra pt.) plus 1st Qrt = 17 1st Qrt points vs Kent St, 3 Army, 3 Nebraska, 7 CU, 7 Mizzou....none on the 1st or 2nd series and none in any other game.

So with our current coaches after 29 games we have scored 1) 3 times on our first series 2 TDs and one FG 2) 3 field goals in the 1st Qrt, 2 after D forced Turnovers where our O stalled 3) 4 1st Qrt TDs vs BCS teams. Nothing to see here????

(Note - tried to do this right but, if you find an error, please let me know).
it totally looks like they lined up helmets this week, based upon that first drive score. i am totally relieved now...don't even care about the final score we have scored on our 1st drive. :skeptical:
