Discipline and focus

I donno maybe the offense so the defense doesn't have to be out there 2/3 of the game...that's a good start

If you think our offense has been perfect so far I'm not even gonna bother :spinny:

Herman can't throw the ball or hang on to it. How many times have we been stopped this year because we simply couldn't move the ball? Not a lot. Usually when we get stopped, it's because someone ****s something stupid up. I don't know how you coach catching a snap. I don't know how you keep someone from throwing into coverage. As far as I'm concerned Tom Herman has done very well this year.

Sorry but I don't like mediocrity...I know we're 3-1 but we haven't looked that good since the start of the season...there's a reason why we get no national respect, some people settle with 6-6 seasons

I'm sure CPR says "Hey guys, great season! We finished 6-6 and we beat Iowa...I couldn't ask for any more of you guys!"

If that's what he thinks then we got problems...I'm glad he doesn't

Are we 6-6? No. We are 3-1 with 2/3 of the season left. For someone who doesn't like mediocrity, you sure gave up fast.

true he can't but he's suppose to teach the guys so that the chances it happens during the game decrease...that's why he was hired, he has to have some of the blame put on him.

I said above that we are 3-1,at that's great, but there are fans who hope for 6-6 seasons like we just accomplished something great...if we don't have expectations what's the point of having a team? (not saying we shouldn't have a team, just saying we need to want to get better).

We've played through 1/3 of the season and I think we've yet gotten to our full potential...it's kind of frustrating.

the coach i'm referring to not doing good is the O-line coach...seems we got too much talent there with little production...hopefully it's because of injuries but kind of worried about that...maybe it's because that was one part of GC regime that was actually decent...everything else sucked.

The difference for me is that I remember playing Texas 3 years ago. I remember just getting pummeled because physically and schematically we weren't in the same universe. We got throttled last weekend. This time, though, it wasn't because we couldn't match up. It was because we constantly messed up. To me, that is much better than never having hope because we don't have the horses.

It's ironic that rebecacy is saying "Chizik>CPR, CPR doesn't know what he's doing, I <3 Chizik" when HE is saying that the seniors are bad leaders. Guess who recruited them here to Ames? It rhymes with Jean Chizzstick..so you're saying he doesn't recruit leaders and he recruited undisciplined players?

Again extremely ironic

I could care less about Cheezer, CPR has coached these guys the last few years. Blaming anything about this team on Chizik, would then mean you would also have to give him credit for the good things the team has done the last couple of years. I tend to give CPR credit for the progress this team has made, so the lack of discipline should be on him as well. Its his team, good or bad and I think most Cyclone fans feel pretty good about that.

He has had kind of a tough job this year. We are 4 games and all of the guys have come out of the game at some point. I am guessing Tuftee won't be back. KO may not get back to a high level all year. With UNi being an exception, I don't think the Oline has been that bad at all. Some of that is on Jantz too. Against UNI he would take off early giving us the perception that Oline had failed.

yep, that was the worst Cyclone football game I've ever seen...didn't help we had Chizik at the helm

you are mostly right but Chizik gets credit for recruiting this senior class...CPR likely wouldn't have gone after alot of the players..saying they are bad leaders would partially mean it's Chizik's fault...enough of Chizik though he was a joke of a coach here

If CPR doesn't fix this and the team doesn't do well, JP will hold him accountable. That's what CPR's there for, making the big money. Everyone knows what happens to coaches if the wins don't come, especially if they're undisciplined and lose. But players need to step it up, too. Everyone on that team is responsible. Everyone... I think CPR and the men in cardinal and gold will step it up and fix the penalties, reduce the turnovers and get a few more from the other teams. If they do that, I see quite a few games that we could put in the win category. I think they will. Go State!

This isn't true, we've had plenty of guys in trouble under CPR and we had the issue with Tiller and his grades. I don't think this team is anything to be too worried about yet but it seems to be more discipline issues than ISU has dealt with in awhile. So far its nothing to freak out about but at the same time, the coaching staff really should be addressing them before they get out of control.
dear GOD please read. We are always going to have chippy little things. AGAIN we are NOT turning out thugs garnering jail lots of jail time etc. Sure Tiller had his thing...but largely we are doing a good job on the HUMAN side of this equation.

Johnny Majors used to start fall practice with the exact same helmet drill......while giving us the speech about how we were in the army now and in the next few weeks they would be seperating the men from the boys. It's the start of learning personal and team focus and discipline and respecting (even fearing) coach. So if it makes you feel better change GC to JM and let's talk about the ****** focus and discipline of this team and possible ways to fix it.
We could also talk about dinosaurs...other things that aren't applicable. In one breath you say you can't fathom how Jeanie would do...but somehow you are now pontificating on how Johnny Majors would coach THIS team. You are all over the place man...all over the place.

Every coach coaches differently. Bob Knight won three national titles, John Wooden won ten. Both had very different approaches to the game of basketball. Rhoads shows emotion because thats how he is, and thats how he chooses to coach. I refuse to believe that he has lost control of the team. Also, the most major penalties in Saturdays game were committed by Reynolds and L. Johnson. Both Chizik recruits.

Bottom line is Rhoads wants to be at Iowa State, he is a good coach and understands football and the Iowa State mentality. I want everyone on this forum to stop giving in to firing a coach after one bad game and a tough start to a season. Let Iowa do that with Kirk. Let's be Cyclones! Be different and stick behind Rhoads and this team, who despite all the hoopla, is still working their *** off.

As a concerned citizen, I suggest you turn off your computer immediately. Hackers have an undying hatred for coaches who like delay of game penalties and anonymous cash donations to Juco quarterbacks.

CLASSIC!!!!!

I could have sworn the OP (me) started this thread to talk about how to improve focus and discipline by suggesting a less emotional more military approach might help. Hoping to discuss that thought. What I have found are a multitude of people still fixated on GC. With incredible anger. Sad really. Can't even talk about methods and style changes that could help our problem without people going off the deep end. It's like a bitter divorcee.

I have found that typically, when a persons tries to be someone they are not, it comes across as phony. The same would be true here. CPR's coaching style may have some flaws, but it is genuine. That is why players follow him, because they respect his honesty and passion, and they love playing for him.

I think if he tried changing his coaching style to a militaristic approach it would be a colossal failure. He would be trying to win Big XII football games while fighting his instincts as a coach, and the players would see right through it.

We're 3-1. I don't think it's time to open a vein yet. And for the record, I'm glad GC left, because his replacemt is CPR.

Let's back up the blame train a little here. You brought up Chizik. Your intention was to try and show us that Chizik was in some way better than Rhoads. That's what pisses me off. No one else brought up Chizik before you so don't act like everyone else is fixated on him. That's not even to mention you are wrong on the CHizik front. He had players doing the same things. Hell, we couldn't even get a play off.

This is well thought out and I certainly agree. But 1 or 2 very hard-nosed assistants might be able temper the emotions abit.
