Could go early 2nd or even late 1st according to TheHoopsReport.

The Hoops Report | NBA Draft Chatter: Enes Kanter, Jimmer Fredette, Marshon Brooks, Marcus Morris, Diante Garrett

The Cleveland Cavaliers held a draft workout on Monday that included Tobias Harris, Marcus Morris, Jordan Williams, Chris Singleton, Cory Joseph and Diante Garrett. Harris was matched up against Williams, Morris went up against Singleton, and Joseph matched up with Garrett. According to a source, Morris was the most impressive player in the workout. The source said that Morris really tore it up and Singleton didn't look good at all. The source also said that Garrett got the best of Joseph. The Harris-Williams matchup wasn't an ideal pairing, as Harris is more of a combo forward and Williams is a true post player.

One guy to keep an eye on is Diante Garrett. The 6-foot-5 point guard put up fantastic numbers as a senior this year at Iowa State and performed exceptionally well both at the Portsmouth Invitational and the Nets Combine. By Tuesday, he will have worked out for the Clippers, Lakers and Cavaliers. With the solid season he had this year, how well he has performed in his draft workouts, and the concept of a 6-foot-5 point guard that can score and be an efficient floor leader, it seems very probable that Garrett will be selected somewhere in the second round. I'm not saying it's going to happen (I've seen plenty of crazier things happen in the NBA Draft) but don't be shocked if Garrett ends up in the first few picks of the second round or maybe even the final few picks of the first round.

Thoughts: First of all, I would go absolutely nuts if he went in the late first or even in the early 2nd. What a great thing for him and what a great thing to tell incoming recruits. DG went from virtually nothing to a middle of the draft player in one year with FH in his up tempo system.

That would shut up a lot of of Diante's naysayers over the years.

He stayed for four years, was extremely congenial and polite and NO DRAMA, good student, and great kid.

yet he was still bashed constantly

I'm starting to think the Lakers are a good fit for DG. He worked out for the Cavs, but that doesn't make sense with them taking Irving #1.

I would bet the Lakers take Darius Morris if he's there and I think he will be. The way his whole decision played out, I think he has a first round guarantee from someone and I bet it's the Lakers.

[enter Fred Hoiberg]

"I took Diante Garrett from off draft boards to the league in one season."

That's good recruiting ammo.

Mavs take DG at the end of the 1st rd.....right after getting their 1st ring!

But he's too skinny and can't close out a game! :jimlad:

In your face DG haters. I've been defending this guy forever and glad to see he is on the verge of making it bigtime.

Another positive for DG is the guy flatout NEVER gets tired. It's unbelievable how good of motor he has.

And where would DG be right now if GMac would have been his head coach this year?

Nothing against GMac, but his system did not fit DG at all. A 1,000 plus page half court playbook made DG think too much and complete froze him. Under Hoiberg he was able to play instinctively. It was a night and day difference.

Add to that, you can't tell me that Hoiberg's "connections" with the NBA hasn't helped DG out some. Hoiberg was telling everyone he knew in the league about DG and what he truly felt he could provide them at the next level. It definately didn't hurt.

If a kid's dream is to play in the NBA, playing for Fred Hoiberg can't hurt your chances, that's for sure.

Congrats to DG though. He deserves it. Great Cyclone on and off the court. He took a lot of garbage from the fans for 3 years and just kept on going about his business. He's one tough skinned kid. Good luck DG!!!

I never understood the DG hate. But to be fair, it was only a few jabbering idiots who railed on him.

agree. the DG bashing was clearly an internet "vocal minority." i'm a huge fan of DG, he's one of my all time cyclone favorites.

what a great kid - never got in trouble, always played hard, worked on his game, continued to improve, and really flourished under hoiberg. and to deal with all the &%^# he had to deal with in his four years?!?! what a great story.

sounds like he's really doing well in the workouts and continues to get better. i'm really rooting for the kid.

It's really great for DG and ISU as a whole, but it also demonstrates just how weak this draft is going to be. Let me clarify that I love DG and I wish we had him for another year. But I've never really seen him as an NBA guy.
