Defensive Coordinator Possibilities?

I actually like our current defensive staff as a whole, but I'd be surprised if any of them are asked to stay on as DC, although I could see a guy like Eggen remaining a position coach.

I haven't done the research to come up with good names for this. I would like to see somebody who knows how to stop the spread, and understands how to have a system that can beat Tech one week and K-State the next week. I personally prefer the 4-3, but understand that some 3 man front is almost necessary in today's Big 12.

I could see Shane Burnham and I think that there is a good chance it will be him.

Pardon me for asking, as I know very little about defensive coaches, but I thought there has been a bunch of naysayers on here all ticked off about Shane and his not believing in recruits from the state of Iowa. Or do I have the wrong vibes?

I tend to think that a lot of posters look at Shane as a drinking buddy, and that colors their perception of him.

Whether he's great or not, I can't see where keeping or especially elevating him is a good idea.

I've heard a lot of mixed opinions on Shane. Seems like a guy you want to go have a beer with, but maybe not the best coach ever.
With the results we got out of our D-Line (before a big splash player like Demond Tucker) I think we could do better with our next DC hire.

Everyone with the exception of Ayeni needs to go. Clean house, start over. New coaches have their own guys they want to hire.

I honestly cannot believe people want all these guys to stay or even consider it a realistic possibility. There is zero chance Shane Burnham is here next year. It is in everyone's best interest for a clean break.

Agreed.

While I don't really know that I think any of them should stay but I feel like this is a bad thought process too. Evaluate and find the best option. Maybe they're already here maybe they aren't.

I think some of the thought on promoting him is that it would be like keeping Wally. I know some don't like Wally but you can't say he wasn't a really good coach. I also have no idea if Shane is even comfortable to Wally.

Probably as much as you can expect 2 grown men to be, one being a father.

Guessing you meant comparable?

Fwiw, CW on his KXNO show had Woody or Bruns (can't remember which one said it), but they said Shane Burnham would be a good coach to consider to keep on because if anyone would be close to 100% liked by the players it would be him. Or something to that effect.

I think there are a few people who consider themselves experts (think like the people that call into the call-in shows) and feel like Shane hasn't taken their expert opinions seriously. I'd ignore them.

All that being said, I doubt Shane stays. But if he does, it will be because Campbell thinks he is the best person for the job.

I bet that there are going to be several good DCs looking for work soon with all the changes in the coaches across the country.

Guys, there is a reason Rhoads got fired. We weren't all that good and coaching staff was a prime reason. I hope CMC makes a clean sweep on defense to create a new mentality. Its not OK to expect to give up 40 pts a game.

The other critical hire will be strength and conditioning coach. They are the eyes and ears of the new staff between now and spring practice. He will also set the tone for CMC.
