Defensive Coordinator Possibilities?

Now these are just some interesting name, the two names I will mention are Barry Odom DC from Mizzu current staff, top 10 recruiter, Midwest guy. Or Todd Orlando DC from Houston Cougars. Both would be home run type guys. They both run a explosive D, but with this they will have a expensive price tag! So those are my two names that I will throw into this basket.

PS whomever it is needs to keep Eggen on staff bc he has been a very good recruiter for ISU.

I honestly have no idea what I would want in a DC here. I don't know what it really would take to slow down the Big 12, or if it's reasonably possible at all. I want something showing more results than what we have had the past 2 or 3 seasons, given that this season was better, but I simply don't know how we can or would get to that point.

I don't know, I think Oklahoma showed exactly what you need to do to slow down the high power offenses in this league.

How about Jay Niemann? Northern Illinois defensive coordinator. Lots of Iowa ties. And he has a kid committed to Iowa that we could steal.

Probably going to be the new HC at Mizzou.

Bobby Elliot is about ready to come back. He seems to come back about every 7-8 years, stick around for 1-2 and run at the first opportunity. I'm for verballing hiring him and at the last minute sign someone else so he sees what it feels like to hang people out there.

One DC I would throw in the mix would be the Co-DC at Cincy, Robert Prunty. He joined Cincy in 2013, coached DL and then became Co-DC. Before Cincy he was at TX Tech and was named the Big 12 recruiter of the year two years in a row. There's your Texas tie and he's an Alabama A&M alum, so that gives him some down south ties as well.

Also he was the HC at an academy where 27 of his former players went on to play in the NFL.

All I know is if we're going to be beat, let's get beat being aggressive and forcing the action where appropriate.

CPR's first few defenses created a lot of turnovers. This has really dropped off. I'd like to see a staff that stresses turning the ball over while maintaining sound tackling.

We have not had much of an identity, but if we have had one it is Linebacker University. I like the 3-4 because we can recruit good linebackers and tweeners. Give me three big bodies for the DLine and aggressive linebacker play. Maybe there is a Linebacker Coach, former NFL player that would be interested in a DC gig.

This defense would've been way better had Tribune not dropped so many potential picks.

By far his biggest decision to make is the DC and that staff. He's obviously aware of the high flying offenses that are prevalent in the big 12. Im not trying to establish an Alabama Defense that can shut out one of those high flying offenses, we just need to stop them every 2-3 time they have the ball to keep them below 28 pts. As i remembered it, Rhoads had a pretty good record when he held teams below 24 points. Problem was, with all the three and outs, the defense was usually gassed by the fourth quarter.

Good Luck Coach - think Tressel would be a huge steal if possible. Obvious Ohio connection and Coach Campbell even mentioned Coach Tressel (His dad i presume) in his presser....
