Cyclone fans becoming unbearable

Those saying it's about "feelings" just don't get it. I'm not worried about Fred's "feelings." I'm just talking about being decent to someone who has done a hell of a lot more for ISU than anyone who is criticizing him for being disloyal.

There is no GOOD way to leave ISU for Fred. Can you be upset, yes. But insulting, no. If you don't understand the difference, that's a bigger issue.

If you can't see how transparently self serving you're coming off as, that's a large issue within itself.

Hell, most of us aren't half the person Fred is. He is a remarkable individual and I think that's pretty much indisputable.

This is just, I don't know, cringe worthy maybe? Hero worship at this level is extremely awkward.

You people telling people how to feel one way or the other are WAY more unbearable than the people who are reasonably a little unhappy with the way things ended.

You can appreciate what Fred did and be happy for his success and still not be ecstatic about how he did it.

And Fred's a big boy, he understands. That's why he apologized at the airport today. He probably feels like **** about it.

But he made his choice knowing it would suck for ISU fans and it'd probably make him feel like ****. It is what it is. He had to weigh that against his dream.

But something being someones dream doesn't invalidate others' opinions and feelings when it legitimately affects something they care about.

Holy, great gob-smacking irony, Batman!

A lengthy post criticizing someone for expressing a feeling that those having certain other feelings are inappropriately expressing their feelings....it makes the head spin.

We are all looking for a much needed Scott Drew TIMEOUT here on Cyclone Fanatic.

My thing is Fred was supposed to be different. He was from Iowa, Ames, a 100% all in Cyclone.

We thought for once, just once, we was a leader of our team with an interest in Cyclones not himself - a REAL Cyclone. But in the end he is just like everybody else and thus the utter disappointment and disillusionment.

I don't make him out to be a martyr, but thought him a true Cyclone. who would not only resist the big bucks and his dream to lead us to great things. I doubt a coach exists that is as Cyclone as Hoiberg, and in the end even he bids goodbye. He was the Mayor now his term is over and he is the ex-Mayor.

Fanatics, Many of you have tried to keep dissent down. Trust Hoiball, basically don't argue with Fred... I think to a degree that is good, to focus on the positives and allows for fan and player motivation. But I think I've reached my tipping point on BS. For a coach that came from our system to leave and ditch the fans and players that got him to where he is BS. For him to be silent so long when he could have squashed these offers was a joke. Oh, he's recovering from heart surgery,we shouldn't expect him to provide recruiting comments. That sure didn't stop him from working the NBA teams. Him interviewing basically all positions possible was a stab in the back when we are supposed to think this was a great opportunity and a great opportunity for him. Him basically sabotaging recruiting by telling players be may not be the coach. If this is his how his endgame ended in his head 4-5 years ago, then he honestly should have coached at another college. He really had two options; stay or leave the moment he wanted to coach the NBA (I mean before he has an offer). And for the fans who think we should be glad for him, good riddance. Just hope we can do a little more due diligence than Morgan (maybe we did that already with the TJ hiring. Just hope we don't see anything Fred like at Hilton, maybe someone can remove his Jersey for the season and say it is being "restored". We need nothing that will hurt our 2015-16 team. On another note, wonder if we lost other recruits to Hoiberg's reluctance to commit to ISU over the last few years. Again I say good riddance. Kinda sad though, he had the makings of transforming ISU into a blue blood. In terms of the next coach. We have had great success in the last 20 years, (4/6) picking coaches that can get teams to high caliber. We will support our new coach and team.

I'm going to avoid saying something I have to take back, a lot of this hurts more than anything in my tenure as a Cyclone fan in a clearly "this is sports, not your life" way. Distance will provide some perspective and clarity, hopefully. Once that contract is signed, I don't want to hear a word about him for some time.

Ultimately I hope he's successful, given the way the Bulls had to handle it I don't see how CFH could have done things much differently. It still sucks.

It's ok to have respect for someone, the way they've lived their life, without it being creepy. I think this statement is ridiculous. I'm not one of those people that call him "dreamy" and all of that crap. What I think of Fred is that he is a high integrity individual who has worked very hard and done a lot right in his life. He has the admiration of a lot of people and I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone, outside of some over the top cyclone fans ironically, who have a bad word to say about the guy. That, says he's a pretty remarkable individual.

I don't care what you call him, you think he's twice the person most of us are - that says everything. It's fine, you can put the guy on a pedestal all you like, you can continue to think Fred can do no wrong if it makes you feel good. I'm wise enough to know that you can't tell people how to think and understand that there are multiple ways to view the situation.

You, and others like you, seem to be too caught up in the cult of personality to get perspective on this. Based on your statements, you seem to be more of a fan of Fred Hoiberg the man than ISU Basketball the program. That's fine, but this is CycloneFanatic.com, not FredHoibergFanatic.com. Most of us are fans of ISU first, Hoiberg second. It's been stated a dozen times, but it's not wrong or irrational to be upset with his decision. He's made it clear by his actions that he does not hold ISU first in his (sporting) heart the way that we do. Most fans felt that his sporting priorities were ISU #1, NBA #2 based on what he has said and allowed to be said about him over the past five years. Clearly, we were wrong. It doesn't make him evil, it just means he's a basketball coach like any other whose goals are to advance his own career rather than to advance Iowa State Basketball. We have a right to be disappointed by that.

When people call him Dreamy, it's in jest. When you say serious things like that, very much creepy. Also kind of hard to make out with your head so far up in his backside. I kid I kid :jimlad:
